I always wonder what the difference is... i mean i binge numerous times a day, mainly all day everyday in between purging it... but this is more than just bulimia, i have other issues such as social anxiety disorder and bpd.. as well as ocd. But bulimia is at a huge peak and has been since the recovery of my anorexia. Only a year ago I was 70lbs and under, bmi was 12 in the end, and was at risk of organ failure/death.. and got threatened with treatment units and tube feeding.. the pain of being underweight and the reality check seemed to make a breakthrough.. I kinda just thought hmmm.. I do want to live afterall and i do see a future, but somehow i wish i had just deteriorated to death.. instead of becoming a bulimic mess. Fat and grotesque, puffy round face etc. I despise myself more than ever at the minute.
![]() As an ex anorexic, i cant see my current thing being bulimia os i eat huuuuuuuuge amouts all day and purge, thts not weight control, if anything its complete greed and lack of it ![]() ![]() ![]() so yeh... wats the difference between the two? bulimia and overeating? cos even tho bulimics purge after each binge, we still gain like overeaters and still eat again n again. ![]() |

Hi and welcome to Psych Central. I am sorry that your question didn't get answered sooner - hope you are still reading.
The main difference between bulimia and overeating is that bulimia involves purging in some way. People can be bulimic and be any weight - from severely underweight to normal to overweight. Overeaters don't necessarily purge. They might not even binge - they might just eat more than is healthy on a regular basis, a little here and there. It sounds like you have a lot going on. There probably is some connection between your eating disorder symptoms and your other symptoms. One disorder may be a way to cope with the symptoms of another, and they could all have common roots. Are you in treatment for any of the things you mentioned? Please tell your therapist about all of the things you mentioned here, as they are all important and all relevant, and should all be addressed. Most likely it will require addressing your anxiety and mood in order to see improvements in the rest of your symptoms including binging and purging. We do everything for a reason, and even though it isn't necessarily a good way to deal with our problems, it does serve a purpose for us somehow. TC, Rap
