I have a weird question, but just had to know...
English is not my mother tongue (that's why I ask), but in talking to a therapist once she was talking about 'how we could fatten me up'. And I'm completely lost. Is it a 'normal' word use? To me it feels very very weird. ![]() ![]() Even though it was said with a smile and I joke quite a lot myself too, but I don't know... ![]() |

Hello, Forwardinreverse. Ask your therapist what she meant.

I know what she means, but it's more about the language...
Does it have the same connotation as 'gaining weight' or does it sound 'worse'... Like something you'd avoid saying to someone with an ED. ![]() Last edited by Anonymous100121; Jul 05, 2014 at 08:14 AM. |

It's a colloquial phrase that means the same as gain weight, but is usually more light-hearted and friendly. Your therapist is acknowledging that she thinks you are underweight, but it doesn't sound like she's saying you have an ED. If you are concerned that you do have an ED, please be upfront and discuss it.

It's a term like "put some meat on your bones".....they say it to let you know that they know that you haven't been eating well & that you are too thin or that they have noticed that you are loosing weight......but it's meant in friendly terms especially if they don't know you have ED issues.
When I have been stressed, & not eating, my friends tell me similar things & living alone, they usually even try to give me food to take home that will be easy to heat up & eat & not take too much of my energy to prepare....... Sounds like your T is just caring...but if you have ED issues, you need to discuss it with your T even though the topic is uncomfortable.
