I saw my doctor today. She wants to put me in the hospital. I don't think I need to go. I told her I would think about it. I also told her I would look into different hospitals. Does anyone know of any good hospitals? Please let me know. Thanks a bunch.

Mililey,

I'm sorry things are so bad, your doctor is talking about putting you in a hospital.

By being in a hospital environment, it allows you to focus on your problem without the pressures of everyday life.

How about doing a Google search? Eating disorder treatment + the name of the County or State in which you live.

Hugs,

EJ

I am so sorry that your doctor recommended that you go to the hospital. However, outside peole can sometimes see things within our selves that we can not. I spent a few months in the hospital a few years back and never thought I had to be there. Now looking back I was glad I was there. I agree that you can look up many places on line that are in your area. Did your doc recommend a particular place for you to go?

Thanks for the input. My doctor did not recommend a hospital, she wanted me to find one that I would like becasue she said it would make it easier to accept treatment instead of being forced to go. She did however say If I don't fine one in two weeks, she will put me in a hospital that she knows. I'm scared. I don't want to take up a bed in a hospital when someone else needs it more than I do.

I'm assuming you are looking specifically for a residential eating disorders program? If so, I've heard great things about Mirasol in Arizona, and some good things about Monte Nido in California. Renfrew's programs are considered state of the art, too.

I guess it would help to know a little more about what you're looking for. Does it have to be close to where you live? Does your insurance contract with any of them? Are you interested in a more religious focus? Do you have other issues to deal with at the same time? Are you under or over 18? ALl those things will affect your final decision, since some places specialize in EDs only, others only see adults, etc.

Good luck.

I am looking for a hospital that is for eating disorders. It doesn't matter where the hospital is, I just need a good one. My insurance is pretty good, it will pay where ever I decide to go. The only other thing I'm going through besides the eating disorder is depression. I am 35 years old and would like a hospital for adults, I think. I don't know how I would be, being around kids and teenagers.

Thanks for the info. I am open to any suggestions at this point.

My T has recommended Mirasol pretty highly, and when I was looking, it was my choice. It's an adult program, and it doesn't seem to be too silly about some things -- Sierra Tucson won't allow sleeveless tops or shorts, so I wouldn't have made it there...

On the other hand, Sierra Tuscon does have a very good program, too, and a great reputation. It's worth checking into.

Renfrew is supposed to be great, too, although I know very little about them.

At lteast that should give you a start on finding something. I hope it helps.

I was in the Rader Institute about 11 years ago for over 1 month. I have to admit. I wasn't helped by it at all & didn't like environment. It was just like being in a psych hospital so that didn't help with recovery either. Unfortunately, my insurance wouldn't cover anorexia treatment & according to my pdoc it was critical that I had to be hospitalized. The treatment center was at Washington Memorial in Los Angeles & they had money set up for people who needed treatment & couldn't afford it, so I was stuck going there.

I think that the residential treatment centers are a much better environment to get treatment in even though they cost a lot more.

The internet has information on all the "anorexia treatment centers".....just google on that & you can do your research. Hope you find a good place that fits your needs. I was terrible unhappy with the treatment I had but then again, I didn't fit the typical anorexia "body image" issues they were trying to force me into......I had other issues that were going on.

I wish you good luck in finding help. True anorexia issues aren't something that you can treat without help.

Thanks for everyones input. Unfortunatly I still have not found a hospital to go to yet. The couple that my doctor recommended they have no beds available. I think I might try the renfew hospital because there is one close to where I live. My weight is very low so I can't wait to much longer. I have pretty good insurance. If anyone else has any suggestions I would love to hear them.
