I had heart problems after being on Depakote for 3 years and gained a whole lot of heavy weight, but not on purpose at all. Anyway it has been one year and slowly I am acting (so darnd MANIC people just CAN"T put up with me and I CAN"T Stand putting up with me, I am like a run away train-girl) So my last call is at the end of the line and my moods are so f... scary to me and everyone ddarned. Please assist me, I need to take Topamax, and not gain the weight but still take care of my bizarreness living day to day with the Bi-polar Disorder for last 28 years and rolling. Help!!! Please cheer me on please

I'm really sorry for your problems, razeljenny. Since you've been treated for BP for so long, you've probably been on just about everything. It is too bad you have found no relief.

This is not what you want to hear, I'm sure, but if you don't have many choices of drugs left, it may be that you have to choose between mania and weight gain. I suppose you could increase your excercise, which is good for BP and weight gain, but that can be hard to do, too...

Just curious, what drugs have you been on over the years?

I hope things work out for you.

I have been on Topamax for a year now. I am doing what I feel pretty good mood wise . I have some days when my stress levels are up I tend to get more moody. But for the most part Topamax is helping. It also helps control food cravings. But it doesnt control what you eat lol. So you do still have to watch that.. I still get in trouble that way lol. Hope this info helps you out. Take care!

I think you should give it a try. It has done wonders for me. I have been on Topamax for 4 years, along with Lithium, Wellbutrin & Effexor, and I have not had any bad effects.

I have been on Lithium, Zypexa, Depakote, Trivil, Tyridizine, Pameril, Tegretol, meprobamate, phenobarbatol,E.S.T.stellazine, thorizine, My thyroid got messed up on Lithium, on Depakote I gained huge weight had a heart attack. I can't go through weight gain and heart problems anymore because I am too old to keep going through that. I wanted to go back on medicinee for the mania due to social and mental major difficulties that are almost insurmountable and unlivable. So I am willing to take Topamax, I am so in pain with Bp.
