I have been taking Topamax for almost 3 months now. SInce then I have been in a mental fog is a good way to put it, my depression is worse, and I have trouble with concentrating or even sometimes feeling any emotions at all. Plus my anxiety attacks have increased a great deal. It has helped with the mood swings they aren't as often but when they do happen they are 10 times worse. I don't know what to do, it is getting really frustrating. Any advice?

<font color="#000088">I've been taking Topamax for years, and the side effects that I have experienced have been more along the lines of some short term memory problems. But it took years before that even begun to effect me in that way! I think maybe the depression, and the anxiety may be from dealing with being in that mental fog. Sometimes I even have a hard time concentrating. But it's really been amazing with my mood swings as well. So I have just weighed the pro's and cons, and saw that since it worked so well with keeping my Bi-Polar under control, that I could deal with the memory problems!
I think the concentration problems are a result of the anxiety, that's just my opinion. But I think the best thing for you to do,is to discuss these issues with your prescribing Doc, that put you on the Topamax, and see what he/she has to say about it!

So many people react differently from the same medication, that you never know what's really going on, without talking to your Dr. about it! That would be my best advice! Good luck!

I talked to my doc yesterday about it so he increased my Topamax to 200mg a day from 100 and put me on Respiradal. He said we will deal with my depression later on. Who knows.

<font color="#000088">Wow,that's how much I'm on after being on it for years,is 200 mg./day, 100mg in the morning, and 100mg at night! But it was probably a year or 2 before I got up to that dose. I'm sure your Doctor knows what he's doing though. I'm really picky about how much medication I take, and I try to keep my doses as low as possible. So it probably is a pretty low dose anyway! I did get up to 250 mg., but then had the Dr. take it back down to 200 mg. I just started getting nervous!
But good luck with the Risperidal, I can't take that medication. I get EPS from it really bad, only 2-4 pills, and the EPS kicks in! My body is sensitive to all Phenothiazines! I can't take them! Well good luck with it, and I hope it works for you!
