I joined a group a couple of months ago because I needed a boost in weight loss. It was full of very strong people. I am not. I gave it a shot. I have gone and worked so hard. I have a hard time doing the class. But i kept going. Last night I passed out during the workout. I guess I have to admit that it is too hard. The class is too hard for me. I can not do all the things I am asked to do. I am so upset because I really thought I could. Sometimes I think i can do anything. I'm so upset.

![]() You can do it. You may feel weak now, but keep doing it. As time goes on, you will get stronger. It takes time to build strength and stamina. When I was in Boot Camp, they used to push us past our limits. They did that to teach us that our mind controls our body, not the other way around. Star, get up, brush yourself off, and keep trying. I promise, that in time, you will get stronger. Jeff ![]() |

Thank you Jeffro, but sometimes we can't do it all. Im embarrassed I can't keep up and those guys have arms like Hugh Jackman. I have learned to focus and do more than I think possible. I hurt all the time and although I am stronger, it's not enough. However, all the other classes are a joke. They are too easy, except spin class. That one can still kick my butt. Maybe I should learn all the required moves and then go back. I still can't do a burpee or very many push ups. I feel like quiting every class because it is so hard. In the middle of class my brain goes into panic because physically I am going to drop (seriously) and mentally I won't stop. This has been going on for two months now.

I loved spin classes when I still loved gym and just took them at my own pace and didn't try keep up with the "manic" instructor. I recall joining an aerobics type of class and walked out half way because I couldn't keep up and felt like such an idiot. I hated it. All I can suggest is to take it at your own pace.

Maybe a different gym would be better you have to do things at your own pace. Keep on exercising and you will get stronger.

Would it be terrible to say just ditch it and try a different class? Look for something labeled beginner or intermediate. Then it wouldn't be filled with such hard core exercise folks. Try something based on fun rather than strength.
Exercise classes are different, just like people. Find one that works for you, you don't need to feel bad because you tried one that was too much. There's nothing wrong with you, you're trying to take care of yourself, that's great. Just find a class that fits YOU.

I would definitely join another class, more on my level at the moment. Getting discouraged is not good.

Hamster-bamster that is an interesting thought. I agree I push myself so hard that something else has to stop me. Even the trainer said I go too hard. But I have started telling other class members that its my own thing. I can't quit. They are confused why I keep pushing so hard.

Star, you are a lot like me. There is no quit in you. I respect that. Like me when I'm up against something that I'm struggling to accomplish, I just keep going to my limit, and eventually, I will achieve it. Maybe not tomorrow or next week, but I WILL do it.
Keep your head up, and just take one day at a time. |
