I'm 22 and i want to excersize (running on treadmill, lift weights) but I'm too nervous to do it around others and don't know how to do it myself. I want to learn to lift weights and build muscle but I feel someone will make fun of me for being so weak or not knowing how to do it. I look goofy when I run and I live in an apartment complex so whether I go outside or at the gym someone will see me. I'm skinnyish (have always been skinny just started gaining weight) but I have love handles. I also don't have the best diet but I don't make alot.

Hello GaterVaret: Well... From my perspective, what's important here is that you have the desire to do this. I don't know what's available to you where you live in terms of exercise facilities. But perhaps you could just check some out & perhaps find one that's not super busy with extreme jocks. Where I live, at least, nowadays there's a physical fitness center on almost every corner it seems like! So there's lots to choose from. It would be good, I would think, to learn to do this correctly. I'm not into this stuff personally. I just walk... a lot!

You have to know that if anyone is making fun of you while exercising then THEY are the problem not you. You are taking care of yourself and that is what matters. There is a site called bodybuilding.com and they have training plans to follow and you can track your workout through their app and the app has videos explaining how to do the exercises.

As above, it's important to 'rise above' any negative remarks, they say more about the person who dishes it out than you.

Where I live we have clubs and groups for runners, if you exercise with like minded people you will probably find people less likely to pass comment - safety in numbers, plus you get the encouragement of others in the group which helps motivation.
