Hello, I'm new here but your title of no support system caught my eye. Then I read your post and can relate so much. The struggle of losing weight is very real for me also. A family member of mine sabotages me quiet often as well. She likes to bring me bags of candy knowing that I cannot resist. Of course I eat the candy and then feel super guilty. Then I decided that I have to try hard to be stronger willed. So my advise to you is to continue to try hard. Don't give up no matter what. Remember you are doing this for yourself and you deserve to lose the weight in order to feel better about yourself. Just picture yourself at the weight you want to be at and go for that goal. Buy yourself a nice out fit that you want to be able to fit into and hang it where you can see it on a daily basis as a reminder to you of where you want to be. I wish you the best of luck and just know that you are not alone in this fight. Take care.

There is a weight-loss/lifestyle change thread in the bipolar forum, just FYI.

Standup2me and AlwaysHurting:

If you have someone in your life who sabotages you, I admit that is a challenge I am not familiar with, because there is never anyone in my life. But, if you can deal with that part, I can offer you some practical tips.

I can totally relate. 1 - I'm always alone, with no support, and 2 - I have been overweight and almost obese a portion of my adult years. I am now a fitness junkie who has learned about nutrition and exercise, and has gone through weight loss spurts of > 70 lbs. I would LOVE to give you some tips, if that is something you are open to.

- The battle to lose weight is mostly a psychological one. It is up to YOU to find a way to motivate yourself. Think - what incentives would get you to do this ? What is the end result you want ?

- Find exercises that you enjoy. Don't bother with exercises you find dull or boring, because you won't be able to keep them up.

- Base your diet around foods you enjoy. Some sacrifices will have to be made, but you don't have to make extreme changes you can't sustain. For instance, white rice -> brown rice, sugar -> Stevia, etc.

If you can tell me more about your specific goals, I would be more than happy to work out an exercise and/or meal plan for you, and even coach you psychologically. Please send me a private message, or I would be happy to share the tips on this thread.

One other idea, Standup2me - Meetup.com !

There are a lot of exercise/fitness groups like hiking, jogging, biking, etc. that are not only fitness-oriented but also social, so they can be more fun for you than working out on your own.

Meetup.com is all over the world, so I'm sure there must be some groups in Alberta.

Always Hurting.
I have battled with eating disorders all my life. I was 38kg in high school. Im 5'11 so not very good. Then I was put on medication that blew me upbto 80+.
I am now a "healthy weight with a good BMI, however I developed body dysmorphia. I see a fat girl. When ppl say "oh you look so much better. So healthy." I wanna cry. And when ebay sellers callba 10-12 Plus size......
Just don't starve yourself. Your body will store any fats and then when you finally eat....it's twice as bad.
Drinking warm lemon water b4 meals decreases appetite.
Stay away from bread, processed foods and saturated fats.
Sweet drink? Coconut water surprisingly low in cals as is diet ginger ale...also less carbonated
Carbonation bloats
Try not to eat approx 4hrs b4 bed
At least 20 mins of exercise per day...one cheat day allowed.
Ear little and often. I eat about 5-6 small healthy meals per day. Keeps metabolism peaking.
Switch to soy milk
Finally, be patient. Throw away the scales. Dangerous things.
If u want further tips or healthy food tips feel free to contact me
Keep it up. You will do it ☺

It's really hard with out support but it is doable. My husband is a bit of a saboteur. He bakes things he can't eat cause he is allergic to cane sugar.

There are lots of people around here that will cheer you on. They will even cheer you up when stuff goes bad. The most important thing I can say is listen to your body. I feel better on a high protein diet but I know people who don't.

Thanks for the heads-up but you may have been thinking of the Eating Disorders forums. The guideline that applies -- there only, not here -- is:
