Morning, afternoon, and evening folks,
So yet again I get my head tore of by my gp about my size. Im well aware of my weight and health problems related to it. It really bothers me when one of the lucky ones say its easy to loose weight. So screw it I'll give it another try A little background of myself is necessary I beleive. I was raised on the "eat what I want diet"; both parents worked a lot and one traveled a lot as well. I was spared the rod in my upbringing. This led to poor a poor diet for the next decade or so. I was only successful once in my countless attempts. I was a overnight camp counselor for 2.5 months I lost 55 pounds. Sounds like a lot, but I weighed 340 pounds at time. This weight loss was because my life style choices were restricted. The food was mostly bread and protein lacking in other vitamins, due to food allergies of the kids. Plus walking fifteen miles a day helps. So I would like to attempt to lose weight once more, and hopefully succeed. I have gained much of that weight thar I have lost camp. My main problem is staying committed. It seems that at times I have an utterly strong commitment to losing weight. But I lose my resolve ridiculously quick. Like next morning at times. I honestly beleive that I have add or something. I may actually get tested or something. My T says that I need to stay on it, but that's not very helpful. A secondary problem is that I live with people who would be considered obese and have no desire to be healthy. So their is no support system really, I need tips, because I absolutely hate going to the gum. I hate the judgemental looks I get from people and I honestly can't stand crowds. I've tried working out at my house, but it makes it so much easier to wait. Sent from my KYOCERA-E6560 using Tapatalk |

Maybe try a Tai Chi dvd. Walking is also good.
Watch what you eat but don't go crazy head counting chips or weighting out stuff. Start small making sure you eat three mostly health meals, or more frequent smaller meals. Maybe adding in a health snack on the nibbly times. Or just putting chips into a bowl so you only eat a bit and not the whole bag (my downfall) Anyway start small don't over haul every thing at once pick one thing and work on it. For me that was eating breakfast and not just drinking coffee and calling it good. Think of it as a reno on a house our living in, your going to work one room at a time. So try one habit at a time. good luck |

Hi there, Stuck1nhead, I understand your challenges, and I would like to try to assure you that there is hope.
I have had interesting challenges with my health and fitness for the last eight or so years, and I'd like to share some tips from my experience. Eight years ago, I paid my very first fitness trainer for 10 sessions. But, in essence, I paid him for 6 words that I can still remember vividly. "It's how bad you want it." The battle to lose weight is mostly psychological. Each person is different, so you need to figure out what your incentives are to lose weight. Better health, new clothes, being able to play sports or do more outdoor activities, dating success, whatever (these are just some examples). Also, remind yourself that the benefits are going to be long-term. Your huge effort may be just a one-time investment, after which you may only need upkeep. In business terms, there is no return without investment, so think of this as an investment. You put in let's say 6 months to lose x lbs, and you reap a lifetime of better health, the effects of which you can start to enjoy immediately. One trick that can work is that you put up a picture of something that motivates you, in a prominent place ... the fridge door for instance ... that reminds you of your goals and why you are making these sacrifices ... example, a picture of yourself from when you were in the shape that you liked. Or, an outfit that you would really like to wear someday. Or a sport you would love to play someday when you're fitter. Whatever it is, find your motivation and incentive to lose weight. I understand that it can be hard to go into a gym, because people are very narrow-minded and judgmental, and love to compare themselves to others to feel better. So, I agree that the gym is not a good environment for you. Find a form of exercise you enjoy, in a comfortable environment for you. Be it walking, biking, swimming, whatever works for you. Let's face it ... if you're uncomfortable or bored, you won't keep it up. Dieting is probably the most difficult part for most people, and again, base your diet on foods you enjoy, then just tweak it to cut out some of the bad stuff. For instance, if you love eating white rice, try brown rice for a while. If you love sugar, use Stevia instead. Then, as you get adjusted, get a bit stricter still. Whenever motivation is low, look at that picture on the fridge ! The point is, keep motivating yourself, and let progress be gradual, not extreme. You also mentioned living with people who don't support a healthy lifestyle. This is also a challenge, I admit. Here's where you need to ask yourself how committed you really are towards your health. Every person's first loyalty is to him/herself, and there is nothing wrong with that. So, there is nothing wrong with setting boundaries with friends/roommates, and putting your foot down about it. Each time, again, remind yourself of that picture ... what am I fighting for ? To summarize: Think of investment vs return, find what motivates you, set specific goals, make gradual changes, stick to exercise/food you enjoy, at least initially, get stricter over time, and put your health above your loyalties to others. If you would like more detailed advice or even a meal plan or workout plan, please send me a private message and I would love to help you to the best of my ability. P.S. I am an aspiring fitness trainer, and have helped several people in my life lose weight. Either way, best wishes to you. This is a wonderful journey you are about to embark on, and in my case, it crossed into the spiritual realm. The rewards are well worth the effort ! ![]()

Hi ImmerAllein
I appreciate the support. My personal health doesn't really bother me that much. For a guy my size to do things I have done is impressive really or not very commonly seen. But I believe that my size is finally starting to hurt my self of esteem. I have always had a utilitarian outlook on life. So looks were never high on my list. But now I have a desire to put myself on the market again. I haven't been interested in dating for the past seven years or. Which is one of three reasons I want to loose weight. Reason two is my T said that eating the wrong foods is like taking the wrong meds. Which is one of the few things he has said too me that connected Reason three is I have always been envious of free runners. The things that they do require unbelievable endurance and strong core. I would love to be able to do that. To feel less restricted in where I can go would be freeing I think. Sent from my KYOCERA-E6560 using Tapatalk |

See you have already taken a small step. It is a huge improvement! Don't beat yourself up or forget that the big goal has little steps.

Don't know if you will find this useful, but if I just had to have something to eat out of habit and not hunger...I would eat things that just take a much longer time to eat. Something like shelled nuts, or jerky, or peanut butter on a spoon. They aren't all healthy, but better than grabbing a bag of chips or cookies where a much larger amount of food can be eaten very quickly.
Good luck with your diet. ![]()

Harder to do: Be present through the craving. Distance yourself from the feelings. Observe your feelings. Let them be. Cravings sometimes disappear after a little while.
