157 today, hopefully starting to creep back away from my upper limit (range is 150s).

Marilyn, I hope you are not offended but I want to offer an observation on my personal history. I have been on a number of different diets over the years and the least effective is what I call Plan 2. I Plan 2 start tomorrow or after the holidays or... The hardest part for me was sticking to the commitment to truly start (half hearted attempts don't count) because I had convinced myself I wasn't turning back once I did. I think the reason I have been more successful than ever before is that I only restrict what I eat based on a calorie goal. I didn't go too far overboard on the deficit; I was aggressive to start with but could eat reasonable meals with careful portion control. I have to make trade offs to indulge and I do that. Motivation got me started but it has a short shelf life; I had to have discipline to go the distance.

In the emergency room I weighed 170. Guess who needs to calibrate their scale. Just to make sure I hadn’t gained loads in water weight I weighed myself when I got home and I was 155 with clothes and shoes on and in the middle of the day.

No I am not offended at all UpDownAround, what you are saying here,I have been thinking it myself,in fact I am worried if I will ever get started and have the discipline to stick to it.Gonna start straight away, write all in food diary and stick to the calorie counting. Thanks for the advice.

That's a crazy big difference. Both digital scales? Weighing at a couple of different doctors' offices over the last few months, it seems like mine is pretty good. Late day fully dressed weight being 5-7 pounds heavier seemed about right and I didn't bother checking when I got home.

I hope you weren't in the ER for anything serious.

158 this morning. Yesterday was not a bad day; likely just water. I usually hit the gym on Tuesday but have to take a car in for service tomorrow.

I cannot for the life of me get any scale that are consistent,I bought about six different types and returned them all cos they were vastly out and wrong, the digital scales are the worse.I now stick to the doctor's scales which are mechanical and I get weighed there once a month. The scales I have at home whether I lose or gain always show me at the same weight,it's ridiculous.

My mom thinks maybe because so many people get on it they just don’t take the time to calibrate it. Yes, both of them are digital. At first when I saw the 170 I freaked and thought “am I in kidney failure or something?” Because I think you gain a lot of water when your in kidney failure? I’ve had high kidney levels before too. But when my blood work was fine and when I weighed myself on my regular scale and I was the 155 I knew theirs was wrong.

I just wanted to get a lump on my neck and a lump on my head checked out that I was worried about. Luckily everything is fine.

I didn’t weigh myself today but I did get back on track with my eating. So far I’ve had around 800 calories. Give or take for the coffee I had this morning.

Out of curiosity, I weighed before bed last night and was 159.0. This morning I was 157.6, which I round up to 158 for reporting. I plan to go to the gym early AM tomorrow.

When digital scales are out of whack, the cause is usually mechanical as odd as that sounds. The ICs that turn the pressure on them into a number are highly accurate with a low failure rate. The difficulty is getting all the pressure on them and not allowing weight to transfer around them. That's why carpet can be a problem. Holding on to something, even as lightly as you can will throw them off. Unfortunately, so can swaying, so if you can't stand straight and still unsupported for a few seconds, it is hard to get an accurate weight. Weight distribute evenly between feet and between heel and ball of each foot helps.

I was really low this morning. 148.6. I was expecting 150 or 151. I didn’t eat much yesterday and I lifted 10 bags of heavy mulch 3 different times. So I burned a ton. Today I’ve had 780 calories so far.

I am not losing weight and I am not exercising,I am not even working towards my goals,I feel like giving up but that's not an option. When I have had a tough day and I feel depressed and tired and despondent,I want hot toasted crumpets with butter,I want muffins, blackberry crumble, ice creme and chocolate.I can't say no to it when I need cheering up.I have to say no unless I want to die young.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. Can you replace those sweets with healthy choices? Like fruits or reduced calorie treats that you make your self. I know it's hard but in time your cravings will change. When I need comfort food cause I'm feeling stressed, I drink chicken soup from bouillon cubes and a powdered mix. Or I snack on cheese and nuts. I hope you find your alternative. Maybe an online support group will help too. (((Hugs)))

If you can get diet sweet tea its pretty filling. I just drink it straight out of the bottle. Also diet sodas help too despite the bad rap they get.

Rounded up to 158 today. Had a good cardio session yesterday morning and kept pretty close to goal. I kind of expected a downward bounce.

Had a bad night. I binged on nuts. I was half asleep when I did it. I think what made it so bad was that I skipped dinner. But I wasn't hungry. Next time I will eat something and I will quit buying nuts unless they are single server.

I was 147.2 yesterday. Then I didn’t have a good day. Today I’ve been pretty low on calories. Just 640 so far. I can’t stomach much so I think I’m going to have a large coke from McDonald’s and then a lean cuisine. That will bring it up to about 1,190.

Overall I've been eating less this past week but the scale didn't go down. I'll try to remain positive. I'm going out to eat today with a friend. I plan to eat a salad with chicken strips. And I found a new exercise video I want to try. So I will do that today as well.

I was reading up,if obese to lose weight you are supposed to reduce your usual calorie intake per day by 500 calories. My usual intake is at least 3000 calories. So instead of 1200 calories diet I am going to try 1500,which is reducing by 1500,so I should lose at least 3 pounds a week,if I stick to it.It is easier to stick to 1500 a day, than attempt 1200 and end up eating 2700 plus cos I am always hungry and craving. If I eat 1500 I am full, not hungry and can stop myself giving in to cravings a lot easier. So wish me luck I am going to try this.

Yesterday I had less then 1200 calories. And today I was 149.8. I didn’t really get it considering when I weighed myself on Wednesday I was 147.2. I’m on antibiotics that are causing loss of appetite so I haven’t eaten much today.

My calculator says I had 1200 calories today. I had less then that though because according to the Outback nutrition info 390 calories is for all the toppings on the baked potato and I just had cheese and butter on mine. Not sour cream or bacon. Watch, tomorrow I’ll be 150.

Crazy bouncing weights. A couple of days ago it bugged me that I was 158 because I was expecting a "low normal" reading based on when I exercised and what I had eaten since. Yesterday I exercised early, but a little less cardio than usual; only about 50 minutes. I am doing more upper body exercises now that I can gain since my shoulder is better. Not fully rehabbed from surgery, but in strength training now. Anyway, I went a little crazy with pizza last night and was over. I was worried bout bouncing up toward 160, but I was just below 156. Makes no sense but I'll take it.

Yup. 149 still. I don’t get why I’m not losing on less then 1200 or at least getting back to the 147 that I was at on Wednesday. The 149 just seemed to come out of nowhere and it’s not going away.

I just weighed myself without shoes on and I was 156. I did have a couple bad days but I don’t understand why a couple bad days causes the scale to go up 5 pounds but 2 good days and the scale doesn’t budge.

I always do the weigh ins I pay attention to early AM before breakfast (sometimes well before if I get up during the night to use the bathroom and it is past 3 am or so) after going to the bathroom with nothing on. It is surprising how much difference there is in some clothes versus others and how much difference there is during the day depending on what you eat. It's not just how much the food weighs; some foods make liquids move through slower even if they don't cause retention across days. I didn't weigh this morning. I am planning to go to the gym tonight and weigh tomorrow.

This past weekend I had a couple bad meals but I wasn’t over eating or even eating all day. Today I weighed myself in the morning and I was 152. I’m gaining fast and I really have no idea why.
