I have had an onset of very intense anxiety. It is crippling. I cannot function. I recently started Latuda, and every six days increased the dosage, per doctor's directions. I am now on 80mg. The anxiety started when I upped it to 40mg. and continued to get worse at 60mg. My Pdoc is on vacation and I cannot ask her about it until June 2. Has anyone had this problem with Latuda?
I went to an Urgent Care and got some Lorazepam. But it just makes me sleep. So that is not helping my functioning level at all. Also, since being on Latuda, I have had a lot of thoughts about harming myself. I have reached out a lot about this (here, private messaging, therapist, hotlines). I just want the thoughts to go away, and the anxiety to stop. Right now I feel so defeated. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hello Sad&Bipolar,
Latuda is one of the newer atypical antipsychotics which is used for the depression/psychosis side of bipolar, It has much better reviews than the older antipsychotics and less side effects. But everyone is different and it may be that this medication does not suit you, please share with your psychiatrist. Lorazepam is a good short acting anti-anxiety medication which can be taken prn. Here is an article by DocJohn on Latuda Latuda: A New Treatment Option for Bipolar Depression | World of Psychology And here is some general information on Latuda LATUDA® (lurasidone HCI) for Bipolar Depression Here is a thread with others experiences of Latuda http://forums.psychcentral.com/psych...89-latuda.html

Hi Sad&Bipolar, I was on latuda for a couple of months or so, and it didn't increase my anxiety at all. I guess everyone reacts to meds differently, so hopefully your pdoc can give you some good insight into the problem the next time you see her.

I thought I was the only one! I was on latuda for a few weeks last summer, and it made me very anxious and restless. It was almost unbearable. I worried constantly and felt like my life was falling apart. When I went off the latuda, the anxiety went away.
Does your pdoc have another doctor in place who can take care of emergencies while she's on vacation? I think you need to be seen by someone soon, especially since you're having thoughts of harming yourself. If you need to, go back to urgent care and see a doctor there. If the sui thoughts get really intense, go to the ER.

My doc put me on Latuda to replace Seriquel to try and help keep my mind from running and to help sleep. For awhile I was only on 20mg but as soon as I went to 40mg things just did a 180. Started getting really nervous out of no where in the afternoons. For some reason kept getting thoughts of me dying which didn't help with the anxiety at all. Thanks to this forum, I stopped taking it. Dr won't like it but whatever.

I also started to get crippling anxiety on 40mg Latuda, which was new for me (now at 60mg). It was like intense terror but with no cause or physical symptoms. I had been taking the Latuda at night, which is also the time of day the anxiety appeared. Like you, the Ativan makes me too sleepy to function. The doctor had me start taking the Latuda with breakfast, and that has been better. The evening terror/anxiety went away.

I tried Latuda on a trial from 20 to 80mg and it did nothing for my depression, but when I weaned off of it the withdrawal caused terrible attacks of irrational anxiety that messed me up for a long time. Sunovion is an American subsidiary of Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma, and I would picket their corporate headquarters if I had the time.

For me, Latuda was absolutely horrible. I don't buy the "less side affect" crap. It made me extremely restless and uncomfortable ( theyres a name for it, but I cant think of it...acacia maybe?), gave me anxiety and I also gained 20 pounds.

It can I believe. I just started it and have no side effects, but everyone is different. Definitely reach out about these thoughts and if you feel you're in danger please call 911 or go to the emergency room.

I'm so sorry the Latuda isn't working for you. For me, it's one of the many, many meds I've been on that helps me. I am prone to severe anxiety/panic, but for me Latuda has not caused anxiety, but has somewhat relieved it.
