I need things do distract myself. My interests are few and I keep disassociating. Any ideas?

I mainly watch tv, read, play games on PC and do crossword puzzles.

when it comes to dissociation a technique to remain present is to use as many of your senses as possible. look at something in the room, say a chair, and take in everything about it. describe its shape, what is it made of, color, texture, temperature, every detail of it...it will help you remain more present.

I'm afraid sleep is my main coping skill. Playing some games on this site help me. Having my cat to pet/connect with helps too.

Sleep is the one I often turn to. My current meds won't let me sleep as much as I am usually able to when depressed and it kind of makes me mad. I can watch C-Span or stupid reality shows or sitcoms for hours and that works for me.

I find walking quite useful and something I can do when dissociating as it doesn't require much thought. Pick a route you know and some comfy shoes though because if your anything like me you might walk for ages. I once went out in converse wandering the streets for four hours. I got completely lost and my feet blistered and started bleeding. Now I always wear comfy walking shoes and walk down to a nearby fishing lake and just walk around that a few times until I'm ready to go home. No blisters, no getting lost and I'm only 10 minutes from home so people will be able to find me easily if they get worried.

Crosswords, riddles, sudoku, adult colouring books, knitting, cross stitch, playing with a bouncy ball, using a therapy tangle (search amazon), origami, clay modelling, painting by numbers...

There's lots of ways to keep yourself distracted, recently i've taken to sketching what comes to mind when i listen to certain music...just small images in a little skecthbook. Hope i've been helpful.

To get outside of yourself do something that takes good concentration like reading a book, working on a project/hobby, exercise (endorphins always slow my thoughts down and relax me). It's good to get the focus off of yourself even if it's just an hr/day.

Thanks for the tips. I joined a site. I use my pc for art. My health isn't great so the walking and stuff hurts. Icant read long have AdHD. Some things I can stay focused with. Any other healthy sites recomended?

I listen to music, play with/pet cats at my house, watch movies...unless of course I have things to do like needing to go to the store then that can be an alright distraction. I also started playing a online computer game that is sort of fun so another thing I've added to my list.

Listen to music, make/create something.

Sit outside for a bit, close your eyes and listen, focus on each little sound you hear.
