I've never drank alcohol or done any kind of drug before. I joined this site because I'm dealing with depression. Now regarding my question- I often see things move on strange ways in my peripheral vision. Like a door might grow and shrink slowly or pulse violently or stretch up and down. Why is that? I know there's nothing wrong with my eyes aside from being a little near-sighted.

my suggestion if this continues to bother you contact a treatment provider who can work with you on diagnosing and any treatment if needed. |

See an eye doctor, and have your eyes checked offically. This sounds medical.

I also recommend ruling out a possible eye problem by seeing a proper eye doctor about it (optometrist). Then also have a primary care doctor check you out. That way you won't have to be second-guessing yourself when your next step is to tell your psych professional.
I went through this process, and for me it did turn out to be hallucinations, which got worse over time during bipolar episodes. For me the sort where things are moving and shouldn't be is the type I get due to high stress levels and sleep-deprivation during mixed states. It can usually be quickly remedied if I am able to get proper sleep. |

Hello SammyB,
I don't know how well you sleep but lack of sleep can cause this type of thing. Anxiety can also make us see things that aren't there or make us imagine things, anxiety often goes with depression. Depression can also have psychosis attached to it so it could be hallucinations. Share your experiences with your mental health team, it is distressing what ever is going on. ![]()

I'm absolutely not suggesting it is the same with you, but I can get VERY weird things with my silent migraine attacks. With time I have learned what are migraines and not because for me, the migraines for me come with a sort of mild nausea.
Things I experience with migraines (and I have painless attacks): Balance is getting worse, some slurring, nausea, different kinds of visual distortions (my most common is a very bright light shining at me), hands growing and shrinking, world is not even but tilts to one side.... and probably some more stuff. |
