I feel that I have been venting with no real result. Is venting helpful at all? I know sometimes I would explode if I didn't vent, but at the same time it reinforces some thoughts, and change doesn't occur after all. Is it more useful if we accept our pain and try to direct it for change instead of venting all day long?

I find constructive venting is very helpful. I use my journal to write down a vent if I feel it might not be safe for anyone to see. Like, say a vent about my brother, or sister in law, etc. Like they always say, "Better to let it all out in a safe place, than to bottle it up, only to blow your top at the most inopportune time and/or place."

The fact you aren't exploding would suggest it helps.

It does indeed help.
