Hi, for some years now I've had this thing that when I feel something in one side of my body, for instance a pinch in my left arm, I have to feel the same exact feeling in the same spot of my right arm and I can't stop "pinching my arm" until it feels the same as the left one. Also, when I'm touching something it has to feel "right" or otherwise i have to keep touching it until it does. For instance, I was touching my phone screen and it felt uncomfortable, not right so I had to keep rubbing my finger over and over again until It felt right and every move changed the feeling. I don't really know what this is but it's extremely uncomfortable and I can't help it. This doesn't happen always, I have like seasons when it happens and seasons when it doesn't. I hope this is understandable because it is very hard to explain and hopefully someone can give me an answer of what this could be. Thanks. (And sorry if there's any mistake, english is not my native language).

Best to lay off the phone for awhile. I think you are having a touch screen over load problem. The mind can only take so much screen time.

See your doctor for the best diagnosis.

Is it a compulsion to have one side feel like the other side? Like you have to do it?

Hello Yaridi: What you describe sounds to me like something related to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. It could be a response to stress build-up in your life which perhaps accounts for its " seasonality". I have had this type of experience from time-to-time during periods when I was stressed. Here is a link to a video on the subject of OCD by California therapist Kati Morton:

I believe this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

I'm not diagnosing you, that's a doctor's job. I was told by a doctor that I had traits of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). I have times when I'm exactly like you described. I actually avoid that forum because it can cause me to go back to doing this.
I don't know how to make it stop for you, I don't know for myself. You're not alone in this, though.

Sounds to be like a form of OCD. Talk to the doc about this concern. There are coping strategies out there for this compulsion.

Can you provide a little more information? As in, do you feel if things aren't quite right something bad will happen (some sort of superstition?). Is it a question of feeling safe? Balanced? When things are set right how do you feel? Relieved? Euphoric? These are all questions the answers of which your psychiatrist should know about.

In the meantime, here is a very good worksheet or scale that is a good indication of obsessiveness and compulsions. I had no idea until I completed it all the types of OCD. Have a go: (it's called the Y-BOCS Symptom Checklist)

You might want to talk to a doctor and see if it's OCD.
