Hi all, have a loved one currently on a cto and on a monthy injection.
Is doing very well on the anti osychotic but am concerned what will
happen at the end of the six months as i cant see this person willingly taking medication as lacks insight. Will tge treating team renew it, or shoukd i suggest to them that the person is still lacking insight and beeds it renewed. Wou,d appreciate any feedback as I am new to the mental health act.

What is your relationship to the person who is receiving treatment?

If you're a close family member, the treatment team may or may not ask for your input. None the less it doesn't hurt to put it out there.

By and large the treatment team should be professionals and let's hope that whatever decision they make in the next few months, will be in the best interests of the person you're referring to is concerned, after having taken all facts into consideration.

I am unsure of rules in the UK but where I am treatment is discussed only between the patient and doctor.

I am guessing that, because their medication is being injected, that there already are compliance issues.

Unfortunately (here in Canada anyway) the law cannot compel someone to take their medication.

What can you do then? You can be supportive and encouraging. You can try to help your loved one establish a routine. Will you be in a position to hold them accountable to it? These are things their mental health care team may be able to help you with.

laura beth, its a community treatment order as far as i know-its when your forced to take medication against your own will.

straightaced, you need to speak to their CPN,i am near you from manchester and come under the learning disability team, rather than mental health team but i have the equivilent of a CPN [called a community learning disability nurse] and she is able to do a lot on my behalf,as well as address any problems in my care or speak to doctors and specialists without me involved.
if she/he was previously sectioned,she/he will be on a 117 aftercare plan,i was sectioned in a learning disability hospital around 4 yrs ago and am still on the 117,you get CPA meetings every few months so its worth you enquiring about this when the next one is and speaking up with your concerns at the meeting.
