I have been in therapy a few months for an anxiety problem. My therapist has his theories about the source of this anxiety, and I am having a hard time agreeing with him. This past week, he noticed a mark on my arm. I was wearing long sleeves, but the sleeve of my shirt came up. He asked what happened (it was mostly concealed by my watch). I told him.i didnt know. He asked twice more what happened and if the watch caused the "bruise" ( it was actually a cut). I told him no. He finally stopped asking. I dont know if i should go back. Will this come up again next week? What will happen if i tell him the truth?

Welcome to PC!
![]() In my experience, telling a therapist about self harm has been beneficial. If they don't know what's going on, they can't help. He might ask you why you lied to him. You surely won't get "in trouble." That isn't their job. |

If you don't tell the therapist your problems, it is a waste of your time and moneyto visit him/her. Althogh I'm sure your therapist knows you're self harming, can't do anything about the problem. The best way to cure selfharming is to confront the causes; talk about it and resolve some of the problems. |

I have considered telling him, but i dont know how. It is very minor actually, but he has never seen me in short sleeves. I sat too close to him because i was showing him.something on my phone, or he would have never noticed. I do think he must have jumped at the opportunity to look, because it was really not obvious.
I struggle with a lack of continuity from session to session. Telling him would likely make me panic and then he might not ever mention it again. I guess, in the long run, it is six of one and half a dozwn of the other. I am not worried that it will be brought up again. I suppose i will worry no matter what. |

Perhaps you could roll up you sleeve when you are ready for him to know? That will show him, no words necessary. Things will just take off from there.

It takes courage to do therapy, be brave and tell him. You will feel much better.

I'm okay. Thanks for asking. It's been a long day, but it is almost over. I don't do that much. Usually it is in my car right before I go into session. It is only under my watch most of the time. I don't go back until mid week, so I'm trying not to think about things too much. Some days that works better than others.

I missed my appointment by total accident. Im such an idiot. He told the front desk to reschedule me and that he was concerned that i didnt show up (I have never missed or been late). Now i must endure the dreaded anticipation again. Its the anticipation that gets me every time (and it will be twice this week). Im nervous about last week coming up again and now i am.afraid he will be mad because i missed.
