In the beginning of May when my brother came home, I had thoughts of suicide. I realized now that these thoughts have never gone away and they are not passive thoughts. I'm scared to tell anyone, especially my pdoc. My body rejects most new meds, but there is one antidepressant I took that seemed to settle well. What will my pdoc do if I mention suicidal thoughts? I'm scared of going back to the hospital. I don't want to go there and I don't think it's so urgent that I have to. I just don't know what to do and I'm scared.

Maybe talk to your doc and mention the suicidal thoughts but say "occassional"--I would admit it in a way that would not get me thrown in the hospital. My MI flares up when I am under stress. Is your brother at home right now? Do you have access to therapy? It would be good to talk about how you feel about your brother's role in your family in therapy.

Generally they will not admit you for just suicidal thoughts. There has to be a plan and intent to follow through with it as well. You should be fine.

What about if a person has a plan and intent to follow through 'at some point', just not right now..?
Would that be considered high risk enough to get admitted? (in UK).
Apologies to OP for jumping in on thread.

I think that would vary from case to case but in my experience they generally only admit people who are in immediate danger to themselves. However, I have been admitted before when not suicidal so it really depends.
Thanks for this!

Please get to ER or call 911 if you feel you are in immediate danger of hurting yourself or others.

I doubt you would get admitted against your will if you told pdoc about your thoughts. Having sui thoughts is fairly normal with MI. So as someone up there stated, if the thoughts are bothering you, do tell. Even if you have a plan, tell.

In case it is a comforting thought--being scared is a good thing. It is harder to follow through when you are scared. Are you scared because you made a past attempt?

I got an email from my psych. She recommended the advice nurses again. She said they' d call me during the window I asked for, but now that I have some time I will call them now and see if they can help me.

I know 90% of my feelings are stress related. They began when my brother came home and the innocent hope that I will be more than just the third wheel and the hope he'd want to do something more one on one which never happened. My parents had gone away for the first week of my job which upset me because I was all alone with no one to share how I felt, my work has been a roller coaster with drama and emotions and experiencing new clients, new decisions, different capabilities and personalities of clients....so no wonder I'm freaking out so bad.

Hang in there. At least you are getting some help and getting some direction. You are not alone.

Be of a service to yourself and be honest. You owe it to yourself to do so. Talk to your psychiatrist about your concerns, about your medication. It is not certain that you would be sent to the hospital. Unless you are making a plan they shouldn't rush to conclusions.

I am so grateful to have my best friend A in my life. She urged me to seek help after I confided to her about my feelings. She is a true friend and thanks to her I am getting the help I need.

You can have thoughts and not act upon them. I have that from time to time. You've been under a lot of stress so it can happen.

As long as you're not acting upon them you won't be hospitalized. They'll only do that if you are a threat to your own or someone else's safety.

At least you had someone to talk to. That helps.
