Hello! Welcome to Psych Central! Well, you've joined the right place. Use the forums as a self-help tool, take from it what helps and discard the rest. You'll find sharing with others here helps, you are not alone. I'm glad you have some in real life support too, therapy is very helpful. Medication can be useful too. It's about building up a good toolbox of coping strategies for those times when you need. It's about finding out what things help you.

Quote:
I absolutely understand. Depression and Anxiety have led me to sabotaging that which is good in my life too. I have a history of doing so and 'running away' when the anxiety about things (usually fear of failure is the source). I have sabotaged my relationships, sabotaged careers, sabotaged what in hindsight may have become promising life changes. The ball is in place and beginning to roll regarding a major life change right now actually and I am frightened; frightened of ruining a great relationship and potentially bright future. I am desperately trying to cope with this. Unlike prior occasions I have some new coping skills however and I have thus far headed off my instinct to 'burn and run'. Rvencrow - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) has helped a great deal. I have been working on my negative thinking patterns; like B&W thinking, fortune telling, and tendancy to catastophize. Do you feel up to looking into this? It is a lot of work but can be helpful if you can get past doing the homework. Things that have helped are 'Decatsrophic Thinking' worksheets and comparing negative thoughts. Namely, a hard look at whether or not our negative thinking is actually working for us. I give you a big hug and hopeful encouragement. |
