I've always had dreams in color and can't recall to a single black and white dream. Are they really not normal? Or are we talking about something else when refreeing to colored dreams? I mean my colored dreams are not focused on the color and stuff, there are no bright flashes or anything super bright for that matter like they show in those pictures, my dreams just happened to have color.
I asked my friend and he said he also mostly deams in color. I thought everyone does that. No?

I don't believe you have anything to worry about. In fact, I am quite jealous. I just assumed that it was I who was different as mine are in B&W

My grandparents dream in black and white. I thought that was absolutely fascinating. Maybe it's a generational thing since my grandparents grew up with black and white TV.
Thanks for this!

I was right. Studies show that in the 1940s almost half of the population dreamt in black and white.

Colour is the norm, I can't imagine why anyone would dream in B&W unless it's a TV influence

I always dream in color and I'm not schizophrenic. I've never heard that theory before. I think dreaming in color is quite normal.

I dream in HD and Real 3D in full color on a wide screen, in Dolby Stereo and THX.

Every dream I recall has been in color, and indiscernible from real life in how I perceive them. The obvious differences being I have extraordinary capabilities in some, and I also regain memory of my real life & reality with the awareness that I am in a dream sometimes.

Color here too even as a kid when TV was still B&W.

I had one dream several times that the mountsins around our house had a volcano & lava (bright orange glowing lave came streamimn down around our house.

Another dream I had was that the tall pine tree caught on fire, just the very tip top & that was in color too.

All the fire dreams were because I lived in southern Calif & the mountains surrounding the San Fernando Valley I lived in were always on fire....big fires, little fires.....think even the volcano was related some how.

Mostly I dont dream but the dreams I remember wete all in color. No schizophrenia here.

We LIVE in colour...why wouldn't we dream in it?

I have to wonder at people who come up with baseless generalizations like, "Everyone who....". NOT the Op, obviously...but however these silly rumours get started, you've got to marvel at an individual's refusal to check into scientific understanding of a topic, before they invent an entire fabrication around an idea.

Science admits it knows relatively little about how our brains, and therefore a complex function like sleep, actually works. So, sweeping generalizations about anything like that should be dismissed.

How we dream reminds of how we picture the world with our eyes closed. Most then have color but maybe not lot of details. Or with more details. Depending on how well you can see with your inner eye.

I basically cannot see reality with my inner eye despite being a visual thinker. I see parts but I have a hard time imagining a full image. And to boot I've been an artist as well and that worked fine.

So you can be a visual thinker and suck at making inner pictures... weird.

But anyway, if you can make a colored picture in your mind you can dream in color. Most people can do both so if there is a normal, this is the normal.

Me I only dream in whatever environment is needed. If a full forest is needed I see that. But if only smaller parts are needed my mind will not paint a too complex picture. Also I AM indeed a black and white dreamer and the only one I know.

I hardly think in color. I didn't upgrade to my own color TV before say 2000 or so. But it wasn't black and white TV that caused by black and white dreams cuz I watched at other people's places too, and movies. It was just that color didn't mean anything to me and the storyline, I didn't feel that I missed anything.

When I do art, it is in color.

The mind can be strange.

I certainly hope that it's not a sign of some mental disorder. That would mean that most people were afflicted with schizophrenia which is just not the case. I have had a few people tell me that they dreamed in B&W but, I think that it's more common with people who didn't grow up with color TV or are of the belief that we are SUPPOSED to dream in B&W.
