Before I sign off on this thread I will leave you with some things to ponder. In my book they are quite serious considerations. When someone gets car rides from someone else, the commonly recognised action is to pay gas money in return. This is the way things are done and it is considered quite rude to fail to do so. It is up to the driver whether or not they accept the offer. Consider this. It is no different than your present situation. Again, offer something up to your father. It is for him to decide if he will accept it. I've made it really quite apparent my frustration with this give me expectation and attitude. I can tell you I wouldn't tolerate this from my own adult children. Enough said. |

What about getting it as a birthday present? There's a new game coming out in August anyways.
I like the idea of exploring the helpless feeling suggested in this thread. Having material possessions doesn't fill the void of identity. I have three sons and they are all very different in how they view finances and material possessions or what they perceive as "their" material possessions. It's actually my oldest that resembles parts of what you are asking about. Hubris is the solution, as I'm in the midst of watching him his pride and ego change as a result of consequences for his decisions. Nothing too far in the legal system so to speak but this entitlement over believing he needed a private school secondary education to be whole is a piece of his obsessive belief system. |

You are worth whatever you want/need. Weather you get it or not shouldn't make you feel worthless.

I don't see anything wrong with that. As long as basic essentials are out of the way, why not spend the money? I mean, the money is going to go somewhere anyways and it sure isn't coming with us to the grave.
At the same time, I am probably the worst person for financial advice. I am terrible with my money. I make decent money, and yet I am still broke half the time because I can't save to save my life and even when I do, it always seems to get spent somewhere on something. I think part of my issue was growing up as a kid. Even though I had decent birthdays and a decent Christmas most years, thanks to my grandparents, my actual parents never really bought us kids anything throughout the year. Now, I am not trying to say that I wanted to be spoiled, but hear me out. Often times we would go to a grocery store (parents, my two siblings, and myself). We were actually very well-behaved kids. When leaving the store, my parents would buy themself a soda/water and when we would ask for one they would say "no, we have drinks at the house". I think that attributes to my issues with buying stuff when I want it and I see it. Since we did get the essentials, this probably sounds spoiled but I still feel it is attributed. Also, even when people would offer to buy stuff for us my parents would often tell them not to. Maybe this has nothing to do with how I spend my money now, but I feel it does. I don't have a family of my own, so I am only responsible for myself. If I do ever have a family, my spending habits will have to change. Until then, as long as the bills are paid I am going to splurge as long as I can. I am generous with my money as well, and I don't just spend it on myself, and again I feel that goes back to my childhood and how my mother and step father were. Also, I didn't even mention my real dad (came into my life late) who is such a cheapskate that he would complain about the price of a meal at a restaraunt after eating. Why go, if that's the case? He had me so upset a few times that I even paid for the meal just so he would shuttup. |

My read of this is that it is not his money.

Ah, I see. I didn't realize that. Personally, while I am not the best with finances, I don't borrow money for people or have them buy anything for me. I don't like owing anyone, and I like to work for everything I get.

I know this is old but I have to admit I really am happy I bought it. It's amazing. I mean ofc it is. Sadly I'm a teenager and don't make money. So I have to use my father's. But for the future I started to really work on a monthly something! Like 50$ I can spend or save on whatever monthly.

Teenagers can get a licence to work. It's what I did as a teenager. Just FYI.
Glad you're having fun. ![]()
