For example, in an office setting where corporate politics are at play and you're a new employee... Do you oftentimes feel as if you always have to accustom yourself to your environment (even if it kills you inside) just to be able to blend in with others and test your mental strength to how far you can put up with all the stress in your job just to be able to tell yourself that:
"If others can cope just fine withthe stress, the demands and even insults from your employer, then I can TOO" Even if you feel that you are STILL very sensitive and vulnerable to those things, you are still pushing through because you want to PROVE to yourself that you are STILL that mentally TOUGH person that you WERE before you had the diagnosis... That yearning for things to go back to how they are supposed to be... Do you also feel this way too? |

Yes, @Peonie30, I do get easily overwhelmed by life's stressors! Not quite so easily now since I have been taking anti-anxiety meds for about 18 months now, but I still get overwhelmed.
ETA to add that while the anxiety meds help, so does the fact that I don't HAVE to get up and get out and get to work every morning. This is not healthy, nor is it easier mentally ... I'm retired now, but I used to get VERY anxious at work, and I never stayed in any one job for long, because of this. I was clueless about office politics (as I am about social politics in general), I was too busy focusing on my work while trying to just keep my head down and get my job done well and not get flustered. Even after the main cause of my anxiety was diagnosed, I wasn't treated for it. No meds, just like all of my life up to that point. I was concerned with proving myself capable of doing the work so I could keep the job, but I usually ended up quitting the job because of all the anxieties that I had no idea how to cope with, and no one to give me the help I needed. I hope this reply helps! ![]() |

I get very overwhelmed pretty much everyday at work my first half hour there. Especially if things are a total mess from the night before. I don’t in general feel stress but I get randomly exhausted when there’s stressful stuff going on. I space out due to the tiredness and I’m not paying much attention anymore.
