I'm sooo ashamed....I should be forced to change my username from thelionkinglives...I got lost in the woods for HOURS!!! So much for king of the jungle...I'm just a domesticated housecat posing as a lion...IM SUCH A FRAUD....

I took the family to a local forest area park type of thingy...all of us. Me, BC, all 4 kids, 3 dogs. Everyone exept the new bunny.

We went hiking through the trails, Logan & I were climbing trees, crossing old rusty bridges that sway alot, playing around the river.

BC went to open her pop & it blew up all over her.
She decided to take the twins & the dogs back to the car because she didn't want to be a bee magnate.

So I decided to showoff my great outdoor tracking skills. I said that me & the 2 oldest kids would meet her on the other side off the woods at a bird sanctuary. she could drive around & meet us....

We got sooo LOST! We probably would have been ok if we would have stayed on the trails...but I just had to try a "short cut"...

We went down in & climbed up sooo many old river rivenes..with cyote & deer skulls all around us....we stumbled on an old civil war bunker, we crossed trees over revines to get to the other side...got scratched up by a ton of thorn bushes & I hope no one got into poison ivy.

I knew we were in trouble when we came up to an electric fence & we were on the INSIDE of the fence. I still don't know how that happened? Then we came up to a tree with a huge ladder with a seat in the tree...that's right,a DEER STAND!!! We were now on private hunting ground & no one knew we were THERE!! I was sooo worried we were going to get mistaken for deer. Thank Goddess **** Chaney wasn't there!

I then found a black top road but when I stepped out on it. It said that it was "private property" "no tresspassing" & that you had to pay at the main office to be there...I didn't have my wallet or my cell phone...I don't know if the heat was getting to me by that time or not but at that time I thought the best option was to stay following the electric fence accross the black top deeper into the woods & try to come out on a "main street".

We eventually came out in a very rich gated community with camera's & horses every where & asked an old man in his garage where the bird sanctuary was & he pointed accross the barron field & said walk that way for about 20 minutes...After walking that way for about 20 minutes we finally came across a family playing soccer that gave us a lift & let me use their cell phone to call my wife, who by this time had already been to the bird sanctuary, back to our orgin point, went to her parents & dropped the twins off, came back to the bird sanctuary & waited for a half an hour & was about an hour away from calling the police to search for us...

we overshot the bird sanctuary by 8 miles on foot...

I'm sore, tired, sun burned, cut, scratched & embarressed
Daniel Boone...I'm not!

Hey, if it wasn't for my amazing "cat like" reflexes your 2 oldest would be stuck at the bottom of a revine being a cyote snack by sun down...

With all that loving support I wonder why your pop blew up on ya, hehe

lol you guys...

I like to think of being lost as more of a "going on an adventure." or better yet "taking the scenic route home"

it blew up because I WAS THE ONE CARRING THE BACK PACK OF COURSE, and holding the dogs leashes and making sure the twins didn't fall into that nasty river while YOU were playing and having a good ol time. Cat like reflexes my *****. Those paws are so tender you wouldn't know a reflex if it smacked u across the nose like a news paper.
I would take my chances with Logan fending off a cyote then you you big sissy!

Scenic is nice when you plan for it, not when you go 8 miles the WRONG DIRECTION! ~grumbles~

BC you are such a typical capricorn...always harping on the negatives

holding the dog leashes, please...you gave the leashes to the two little grimlins & let the vicious Pomerainians of yours drag those poor babies right into a Rot mix

Who was the one making sure that YOU didn't pass out on the bridge..
that would be ME

I was not just playing, I had a lagitimate reason to climb that tree with Logan....to get you & Lily a flower

Newspapers on the nose can hurt & mine bleeds easy

I don't know about Logan fending off Cyotes....but I must admit he did say he thought we were going the wrong way...3 times

Sissy...SISSY!! You did not just play the sissy card
I wasn't the one that puked at the Sears tower
Also which one of the 2 of us has jumped on a moving train....ok not smart but definantly not sissy.
Whose the one who broke the jaw of a convicted felon in 3 places defending YOUR honor

& it's not a couch....I prefer to think of it as an elongated throne

Vicious Pomeranians! plulease!! They wouldn't know vicious unless it hopped infront of them. They were wantin to make FRIENDS with the dog...they aren't a scaredy cat like YOU! You big SISSY! Yep said it again. Your nose compus is broke so it won't do any damage to smack the newspaper arcoss it.....

Your scared of hieghts & bridges & I'm the scaredy cat
That's fine I can be the cowardly Lion....as long as I'm the king of the cowardly lions

Besides if I'm the cowardly lion then your not Bearchic, your a bare chicken *cluck cluck*

& as for your 34 for Walter Payton...he's second fiddle to Emmitt Smith

Besides.. you had enough faith in my tracking skills to not object to me taking the kids through the woods...

awweee you were worried about my carcus that's emmmmm....*sweet*

& the compass in my nose being broke was your fault to begin with...the newspaper damaged it

You guys are too funny.......what a wonderful therapeutic way to get through this all to hilarious situation (of course, I can say that after the fact that our cowardly Lion King (puddy tat) didn't get himself or the kids permanently lost). An 8 mile overshot walking is a huge overshot however.....several hours of walking time in my book or at least at my pace.

I remember when I was in high school, I was at a church retreat in the country for the weekend.....a small group of us kids who loved to hike took off alone from the house....no trails in those mountains at all. We were doing ok up & down several hills & on the way back down the mountain.....we ended up hiking ourselves right onto a cliff & couldn't find an easy around it to get the rest of the way down. We spent hours trying to find the down to get us back to the cabin. Needless to say....they never let us go hiking without supervision like that again.......it was definitely a fun adventure in my book. It wasn't until I was an adult & married that I actually went out backpacking. Some of my backpacking trips in the California were in the Sierras & the Rockies around Jackson Hole Wyo.....I would never just take off across country without following the trails & the topo map......but I do agree, it's so much more interesting not following the trail. Most of the fascinating things aren't anywhere close to the trails

Of course, we want to be good examples to our children & show them that a sense of adventure is a good thing. At other times we have to be a good example of what that sense of adventure costs & how to responsibly handle that too.....You are handling that beautifully. It would be awesome if more parents could be like you with their children. Knowing how to have fun with them equally balanced with right amount of good examples of learning for life. It is good that you are sharing here.....sometimes a real life example is much better than just theory...lol.

Another adventure I have been thinking about doing is following the creek at the back of my farm down to the KY river about 5+ miles away. I would just love to see the country around there more than I can by driving around. They say there are a lot of indian relics around here & along the rivers.....actually Daniel Boon's cave isn't far from my farm......would be interested to actually find it, but it's been closed to the public for years. My across the street neighbor is a billionair who was born in KY, but moved to Cincinatti to make him money.....came back to Mercer county & bought up 8000 acres to farm his black angus cattle. There is a cave system that runs throughout this area.....where the indians hid out a lot at the beginning & they were used a lot during the civil war time. One of the cave enterances is on his farm & he has opened it up to the universities to explore.....I have heard they have found some really interesting things even found some pre-historic bones.

Now exploring caves (splunking) is really a challenge....talk about getting lost & turned around.....swollowed up with a wrong turn. I did some splunking in a cave in California with a guide & it was a very small but deep cave.....talk about dark.....no light...can't even see your hand infront of your face.

OOPs....sorta got off track from lost in the woods......but it really is all about having adventure in our lives right

Your posts are always enjoyable to read......It seems that you continually find adventure in your enjoyment for life & family....it is wonderful to see there are familys that enjoy spending time together.

Thank you for sharing your adventures, joys, & aggravations,
Debbie

Yeah, that was a huge overshot It's one of those adventures that Samantha & Logan will never forget...

I'll take my cell phone next Sunday...It's a mission now I must redeem myself.

Splunking would be freaky...that would really test clostraphobia...cool

One of the best things about having kids is you have a built in excuse for doing kid like stuff

I've always told her that men don't need compasses because we have a natural magnate in the tip of our nose that acts as our compass....

But yeah, maybe all the newspaper shots to the snout have damaged the magnate, so now maybe she should buy me one

They have these GPS portable hiking thingies now....much better than a compass. They used them to map the riding trails on the farms around Kentucky as they are putting together a statewide trail system here. It is really amazing how well they work. I was checking them out when I purchased the portable one for my truck.

I bought a portable GPS system for myself when I came here to KY to look for a farm....figured since I was driving the RE guy around, It would be better than trying to follow anyone's directions. I had to laugh at the automobile systems though....once you got out into the back country, you were lucky if you got within 1 mile of the correct location.
Close enough however most of the time.... so we can add another item to the list of horseshoes & hand grenades.

Funny thing was....my husband was here with me when I was looking for my farm (before we separated). I had the GPS on & working & he still wouldn't turn in the correct direction. He just refused to listen to what he was told no matter how right it was...he always knew better.
Ya think that might be one of the reasons he's in California & I'm here...lol......the problem wasn't only with GPS systems.

You said:
"No, I've always told her that men don't need compasses because we have a natural magnate in the tip of our nose that acts as our compass...."
.....I am curious, my husband had no sense of direction & he never had a broken nose & I never bopped him on the nose with a newspaper to break his magnet. I was tempted many times to hit him over the head with a baseball bat,
but resisted....never tempted to use anything as soft as a newspaper......maybe he just never was normal. Should have used that as the sign for him being normal as I knew he had no sense of direction before we got married 33 years ago..lol.

I can see it now
....your whole family going together for daddy's day & getting LK his portable walking GPS.....much better than using crumbs or even string & the old fashioned compass....really out of date when the new fangled technical things are much more fun to play with.

Have fun on your Sunday hike.....LK, I am sure you will redeem yourself & BC, I am sure he wouldn't do that to you especially with it being Mommies day....you would never let him live that down let alone if it were to happen twice in a row in the same place.

Of course, a typical man thing would be for LK to buy you the GPS so you could loan it to him so you won't worry.

Have fun,
Debbie
