I couldn't get my garage door open and it took me awhile to find somebody to help so I could get my lawn mower out of the garage but now the grass is too high for a lawn mower.

I bought a nice Husqvarna weed eater a few years ago. It has not been used very often because I found out that I despise weed eating so hired a guy to do my yard. Unfortunately he is ill so I am trying to do it myself. I can't get the darned thing started. I put in new gas/oil but I think my lack of coordination or strength is not sufficient.

I was looking online at electric trimmers. They are pretty inexpensive. I was wondering if they make gas powered weed eaters with easy ignition like they do with some generators. I was looking at Lowes and Sears sites but if they have those I didn't see them.

Any advice?

Snapper has a great Field and Brush mower that can go through small trees, might be better than a trimmer because you're not holding it up to use it.

It looks like there is an electric starter.

I love using huge power tools

Check this site for the Home Depot. They have a FAR greater range in selection of gardening products, as opposed to Lowes.

This link is for electronic ignition gas weed eaters. These start much easier.
Personally, I wouldn't choose an electric eater, though they are much lighter to use, the hassle of the extension cord makes it more work and they just don't seem as powerful.

You can buy a shoulder support strap for the gas eaters (if you don't have one, already), which really improves the ease of cutting.

Maybe call the guy who used it last, see if he has any helpful ideas how to get it running?

Hope this helps some......

With the one you have - there's usually a little bulbiss rubber thing - you're supposed to push this in 3-5 times to prime and get the gas in the line - have you tried this yet before buying a new one. I have a gas one that you have to pull and I don't like them either. Good luck Yoda

I'm guessing you have a pretty big yard. Using a weedeater to cut it all is going to be really hard work. How tall is the grass? Its possible to cut it on the highest level for the lawn mower, then re-cut it in a few days to get it better. If I were close, I'd come help. Yard work is one of my favorite things.

I would go with the 'hire' a goat idea lol....

Seriously I would use a strimmer, here in the UK you can hire them for the day from any good hire shop. Cut it down to the level your mower will take and take it slow.

That's a great idea, Tishie.
I've forgotten all about those places who rent out equipment.
(Be nice if they also offered an operator to go with equipment rental, as well).

I love yard work, too...(used to run a small landscaping business in my youth, while worked at cemetery).

As with perpetuallysad, I wish I were closer to you, as well, Yoda. We'd have a yard maintenance party..yay..sounds like fun.....
