Hey all,

Maybe this belongs in drugs section but I'm quite worried about it so I thought it might be ok to post it here?

What do you do when fear of hospital admission is equal to intolerable side effects from medications??

I think it's a reaction that many people have? (And not just those looking at psychiatric hospitalization.)

I have real medicinal allergies ... in the past, until my MD realized the dilemma, she would arrange for me to go into hospital whenever I tried a new pain or seizure or whatever medication... to help keep me safe. So I had the fear of both being in hospital and having a reaction (which I did nearly each time.)

Stark, do you have a CPN yet? I think you need to let someone know that you really aren't tolerating the side effects with the medication that you are currently taking and then they can give you something that suits you more. Try not to stop taking the medication but ring the community mental health team, CPN, Doctor or GP.

Thanks for replies JD and pegasus. I'm so anxious right now - I have the "crisis team" coming to visit me every day and they turn up 2 hours late or whatever and I feel like they are just evaluating if I need to go back into hospital or not

I have but, they can't seem to do much without my psychiatrist's approval and I see him very rarely 'cos of everyone else he has to see too.

I don't even like the locks on my own doors 'cos of the hospital at the moment - erk!
Thanks for this!

Hang in there ((((((( Stark ))))))) Let the crisis team know, they should have given you a number to ring also. It's not in their interests to send you back to hospital, the community team should be helping you to feel more independent at home.

Keep talking here if it helps.

Um, thanks again pegasus. I think I'm nearly "fixed". My magic drug of today could well be procyclidine, which my crisis team sorted out for me - muscle tension and anxiety have eased already plus they got me a sleeper (Zopiclone) for short term use
