I have noticed a signature line on this site, "He who angers you, controls you." I see the truth in it, but I have other possibilities too.

I say, "He who excessively helps you, controls you." This is because the more they "help," especially if money is involved, the more power they start asserting over you. I had a lot of trouble with this in my last marriage. My in-laws were very eager to help any time we had a problem, but then they'd hold it over our heads that they helped us, and use it as an excuse to try to control our decision making.

How would you fill in the blank?
Thanks for this!

I understand both points of view. If you let yourself get angered by others, you give that control that you have lost. And yes, when there is money involved you will be in debt to that person until it is paid off. And a lot of do-gooders who get involved in your life whether you like it or not also gives them control. If you don't want their help and you say so, then they are like "you are so ungrateful" and blah blah blah. I would rather keep to myself and let others actions roll off my back. I don't get angered by others because that brings me down to their level....and I am above that.

Operative word. I am the only person who "controls" me. Yes, I can and have given over that control before but it was me, trying to give over responsibility for myself, not someone taking control.

Wow. You lucky people. You have others sufficiently in some way interested in you to try and control you. I don't think I've ever raised that degree of interest in anybody. Cats are different. They just want such basic things: food, water, potty, going in and out. You call that control? I don't think so. I don't think so at all. If anything, we control them. And they know it. They're little beggars. Of which they're rather ashamed, truth to tell. I think they'd rather be truly independant. But that's a really, really tough life, being an independant cat. So the poor bastards yield to their own weakness for the easy life and let us feed them and pet them and take care of them. I've known a lot of feral cats. HAD a lot of feral cats. Transformed them. And they ALL prefer the easy life of pets. It's hard outside there. Take care!

I would say "He who LOVE's you, controls you." My husband and son love me (I love them just as much) - therefore, I would and have crawled through the mud for them and would not hesitate to sacrifice my life for them. They have done the same for me.

"He who 'hogties' me?" - will get spit in the face, and will have to pay for any consequences.
Thanks for this!

If you're caught using your fingers as apostrophes, especially if you wave them in the air - they may be permanently removed!!!

B-b-but, I only used the apostrophe because it was preceded by a symbol (__) as opposed to a word. Does that allow me clemency?
