Check this out.... she has layed 2 eggs the last few days. The second one this morning. Its fun to check in on her throughout the day. I hope I catch her when they hatch. I will have to find out the gestation period. I feel a bit like a peeping tina snooping on her like this but..... oh well. lol.

Here on the west coast we have a number of eagle cams. Those are great to watch. I watched a couple of babies hatch and eventually learn to fly. Pretty amazing.

I hope you check it out in the day. The colours and the light changes is beautiful. She a very busy bird.

It can be really relaxing to sit back for a while and just watch her comings and goings. I have never seen a hummingbirds tongue before. It sure is long! She is soooo pretty.

The sun is coming up an I can see the outline of her nest as I type. There is an egg in the nest, whoa, she just flew back in. So cool. There seems to be a chat of folks watching her comings and goings alongside of the running image. It's a bit too dark so I can't really see her too well yet. I see a beak, and oh, yes, now I see her tongue, whoa, it is long. She seems to be quite vigilant. As I am able I will watch her comings and goings, it's getting more light all the time now. Thanks again for pointing this out, Sanityseeker

I am so glad to have other viewers here watching the comings and goings of pheobe. This is a link to pheobe's webpage. The picture is bigger without having to go full screen. http://phoebeallens.com/big.html

My garden really attracts hummingbirds. I love watching them. There are actually 2 eggs in the next. I am wondering if she is going to drop any more. It was a few days between the 2 so maybe we will see something today. If you have your volume up you can even hear the flapping of her wings when she comes and goes.

Does anyone know the gestation period. How long before the eggs hatch I wonder.

Happy viewing.

Check out these pictures to see what we have to look forward to. Wow... is the nest ever small. The size of a quarter. No wonder I can never find nests.

http://roger.smugmug.com/Other/Our-F...8_8Zsii#P-1-10

I found out the gestation is 16 to 18 days. Mid January we should see them hatch. Based on the collections of pictures in the link it will be 25 days from hatching before they fly from the nest.
Thanks for this!

Thankyou for the link, we dont get them here in the south of Australia, just our native magpies and piping shrikes which I love to attract and watch in the garden.

I just really love to watch her build her nest, bringing little fluffs. She works from morning till night...and so tiny. Sanity, maybe you have come across a nest and didn't know it. I was surprised that she built this nest in a rose bush. I mean this is not a tree, she is in, it's a bush, amazing!

It is also very interesting sometimes to read the chat comments. I have learned alot about hummingbirds from the people there and the links they leave now and then.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......I'm so glad others have found this!! I was going to post, but sanityseeker already has! This is so awesome. I put out a feeder and got hummingbirds for the first time last summer. I'm passionate about them......they're tiny little miracles. I can hardly take my eyes off Phoebe. I watched a litter of puppies and almost forgot to eat....... I'll keep checking back here....... grey

You noticed that too hey Byz.

Here's the link if others want to keep an eye on the nest. The second egg should follow in a couple of days.

Here's the video of the hatch. http://s4.zetaboards.com/Birds_of_a_...=0#post8044193

The eggs were not laid on the same day. The second hatchling could break through the shell today according to the chat moderators.
