It would be something if this thread got moved when at least one of the threads that prompted it was not about therapy either but about those who visit the forum.

The therapist is on a strictly need to know basis. If I choose to tell her something I will. If i choose not to, it is my responsibility to deal with it.

My therapist and I have gotten a lot of mileage out of Monty Python - especially "the holy grail" and the "dead parrot" skit.

The bit about the swamp king building those castles that fall over, catch fire and sink into the swamp keeps recurring. It is worth noting that that fourth one stayed up.

On a more serious note, "brokeback mountain" and "The lovely bones" have earned emmys for moving things forward.

Sometimes pop culture is a good and safe way to talk about things, while not exactly talking about myself.

When it comes to "not exactly talking about myself"

My T is either

A) Terrible at innuendo/making connections/relating

or

B) Wants me to say things explicitly.

I rather think it's the first, but maybe someday I can convince myself it's the 2nd.

Well most of the time I do say something like "I see a lot of myself in [insert movie character]". and then we are off.

man people were drunk shriekin partyin on the balconies last night till I don't know when. they kept wakin me up. I hope they enjoyed the life flight helicopter taking off this morning as much as I did. man that thing sounds like I don't know what, you lie there thinking, what IS that? it's not a train, it's not a plane... I'm always grateful it's not me that it's coming for this time. I watched the Airin' of the Green... Hornet, 8 episodes, last night. That was a fun show! Bruce Lee was great. I wonder if my T used to watch it when he was a kid.

Darnit. stopdog stole my Murphy Brown thing.

Is there a TV character who is a woman who is straight but love love loves her chain saw? [I love my chain saw. I got to play with it yesterday getting some trees out of the fencing. Tomorrow I might get to learn to repair the leaf springs on my horse trailer.]

I wonder how many more years of therapy cyber hugs will cost me?

Not me. I did not do the MB thing (although i am totally gay her).
Repairing leaf springs on a horse trailer with a chain saw? Yeehaw.

I listen to books on tape while walking the dogs but that is the only time I can do it.

I really like guided meditation audio -i use it to calm anxiety down before a therapy appointment and sometimes it works to stop my post appointment rage and frustration. It also really helps me with insomnia.

Will they contact me before they do that so I can plead my case? Do I need an attorney? LawDog? I'll look around to see if we can be proactive and maybe change the name to something inviting ...and T related directly although I think that in general this is somewhat Theraputic . A smaller audience a chance to connect or buddy up with someone as a mentor , a place to speak in front of a few or ask a simple question. I mean those who look at this thread obviously were in or are thinking about therapy.

Unless they hit the wrong link.

This is the closest thing to therapy 101 I have ever found and its amazing . I have read books, watched movies, documentaries , the Internet ..... But good ole fashion OTJ was the way to go for me.

Ok so anywho.... I actually think my attorney should handle contacting PC on my behalf as I am extremely lazy today and I bow down <--- to her omnipotence

Go get me underdog....

It's 5 am and I'm eating nachos for breakfast. I had brought all the fixin's last night, but ended up just drinking. I woke up starving (and hungover) and all I have in the house are chips, salsa and vegan cheeze.

I don't have a TV, so I don't know what character I am. I used to watch movies on the weekends, but the DVD player in my laptop died a few weeks ago so i can't do that anymore.

I do love Bruce Lee- my uncle used to know him in college. He played bridge with him and his wife. I also love British humor (monty python, Jeeves and Wooster, Black Adder...). I like Margaret Atwood, but agree she is depressing. I mainly read nonfiction- right now I'm reading a history of the Barbary pirates. It's great.

I have no strong feelings about smilies. This is the first forum where I've actually used them. I like being able to hug people without actually having to touch anyone. This is the only forum I read at all anymore, actually. Almost the only website except for work-related.

I have a tattoo of the Little Prince. I met (and made out with) both Curt Kobain and Courtney Love. I did CPR on the lead singer from Alice in Chains. He gave me a hat, which I then gave to my dad. He wears it all the time. It's funny to see my bald, 70 year old dad walking around with an Alice in Chains hat. Does anyone even know who they are anymore? Now I feel old.

My dog is going to bug the carp out of me until I take her for a walk.

Fun thread. Thanks.

Cagney and Lacey although I thought one was way hot and could have went either way.

yeah, but they weren't particularly outdoorsy, though, were they?

And the chain saw and leaf springs are separate, silly!

My law partner told me the other day that I was the most masculine woman he ever met who wasn't actually gay. (Actually, he used the word that starts dy... that I never use). He SAID it was a compliment, but still not sure how I feel about that.

So, to make this therapy related, maybe I will discuss that with my therapist on Tuesday instead of the yucky stuff.

The visual on that is awesome ... I think I'm about your age and I knew who they were. It's 9:30 am here and I am easy like Sunday morning. Are you in therapy? Drinking 5am ... Just sayin... Better walk that dog before he pees on your floor. LOL

Julia Roberts in that John Grisham movie? ( she worked for a law firm...thats close)

What about that chick who flew the plane on Northern Exposure?

Sorry I think I'm just picking hot strong females...lol

The word dy* doesn't bother me if it comes from another lesbian. It's a family thing.

Just curious and no need to respond but if you are truly that masculine I am wondering if at some point if you ever dabbled in the the other sandbox.
I believe sexuality is a spectrum, I'm just a lot more left of center... That to is a convo I need to have with Dr. J. Who is awesome by the way!

cagney & lacey were very cool....as a woman in le it is always nice when someone would yell out ."yo cagney..(or lacey) as you rolled up onto something..this would be some kid or something not another cop...

they definitely did much good for women.

my therapist would like them.

i wish she would like "travels with charley " as much as me..it is my favorite book ever. steinbeck rocks. as does poe. nobody scares like he does. my favorite sculptor is st guadens. his work makes me want to touch it & having worked in museums i know thats a major no no.

all my dogs have adhered to travels with charley. we stop & pee in every new state. it's the law. i send home post cards. they stop & pee. i visit odd places & mingle & wander..visit weird things like horse cemeteries & dog chapels & make lasting friendships. i wander when on road trips. my t would like those too.

i
Thanks for this!

I find walking my dogs can really help get me away from depression or anxiety for a short period of time. I have to pay attention to the dogs and that least gives my brain something to do that is away from me but is not work. When I am really having a hard time of the therapist, my poor dogs get exhausted from all of the walks. Happily for me, i am too old to get hungover. Or as the therapist has put it, I have too much need for feeling in control that she cannot imagine me getting drunk because I would feel out of control. One of the few things she is not totally wrong about.

LC - you have a team of us ready to take on the man for you. And then we can all process it with the therapists.

MKC - there are not a lot of lesbians who are outdoorsy on tv either. What about dr. Quinn medicine woman or the pilot from northern exposure?(i just saw LC suggested this too). Sally from 3rd rock from the sun?

YES! The hot chick from Northern Exposure!!! Too bad I don't look like that, but . . .

I totally think Angela Jolie is hot, does that count? My husband has given me his solemn word of honor that if the situation ever arises, we can have a threesome with Angelina Jolie.

Seriously, I think the whole thing about being sexually abused by a woman as a child would give me serious issues if I even attempted playing in the other sandbox. I have friends who are lesbians and I've gone to a bar with them and had another woman kiss me on the mouth. I wasn't horrified, but it made it pretty clear to me that isn't the way I go.

Ok, didn't know whether I should put this in here or not but my mood has plummeted. Next door neighbours have just come back from hospital with their new baby and this for a lot of reasons makes me feel really sad. I won't go into the reasons why, I don't want to bring a complete downer to this thread. Just wanted to get it out. I will be ok.

What a great idea! I have been watching The Rifleman, which I wasn't allowed to do when I was a kid because it was supposably a boys' show. They quoted the Little Prince in an episode! There WAS this bratty little prince with a french accent or something, and his big sister was making googly eyes at the Rifleman and their dialogue was about how now that they had something'd, they were responsible for each other - oh, YOU know the line!
