We will only see a partial eclipse here on the eastern coast. It should be spectacular to see the full eclipse. A friend is going to record it. I will watch the images but will definitely be on the lookout meanwhile to see how it comes out here.

Please note that although it'll be visible in China on Monday, on our side of the Date Line it'll be late Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for letting us know Tim - I love seeing things like this. I know with a total eclipse we're not supposed to look at it - if we wear sunglasses will that be enough I wonder?

From what I've read, sunglasses are nowhere near enough. The articles emphasize, "not even the darkest sunglasses". Something like welder's goggles may be enough but if you didn't know what you're doing, you could still damage your vision seriously.

The safe way to view an eclipse is to project the image onto some sort of screen. For a previous eclipse I set up a 20-power birding telescope on a tripod, aimed it toward the sun (without, of course, looking through it), held a piece of white cardboard behind it, and adjusted the scope till I got a good image of the sun on the paper.

Don't let anyone look through the scope or they'll be sorry.

Thanks for the article. If sunglasses aren't nearly strong enough, what is? Tanning goggles? lol. Maybe taking pictures would be best.
