I had fun watching eurovision last night - and stated it was a helpful distraction from other stuff going on in my life right now.
That got me thinking about "distractions" - how come it seems easy to label good experiences as distractions from negative experiences, but not to label negative experiences as "just" distractions from positive ones? Not sure whether that makes sense, but my head seems to think I am on to something for me at least. ![]() |

I guess you could label it that way. I see distractions as anything that takes me away from something........I would want any distraction that took me out of my head or took me away from a negative experience. I don't want to be distracted from a positive experience...but then its all about a play on words isn't it.? I get distracted from the movie because I answered the phone and so on...of course with me I'll be darned if I would answer the phone during a good movie!!!
Take care of yourself.........I know Dad recently passed so anything positive now would be a help for a little while!!

I think distractions are things we do deliberately to get away from something else; presumably we would pick something we enjoy doing more than whatever it is we want to get away from. What kind of experience we will have though, we cannot predict before we have it; I can pick a boring distraction, for example or, when I finally am doing what I'm avoiding (procrastination), I might find that what I am avoiding is not at all unpleasant. So, the action and the experiencing of the action are two different things. In actuality, you are distracting yourself from your own perception of how you think something is/will be. That's why it is not a good idea because you are putting yourself at one remove from experience, not having an experience at all, just the thoughts and feelings about previous experiences. If you forget about why you are distracting yourself, then you open yourself to experiencing what is happening in the moment (eurovision) and, since you were looking for something better than what you thought you had, it's a good experience.
