Hubby has made it through the first bout of selection to be on a game show. Tomorrow he has his second skype chat/interview with the casting directors but so far it sounds very promising. The first two interviews(one phone one skype) went smashing and they loved him. He is over the moon ecstatic and I'm very happy for him but all I can see is the downsides and questions that nag at me. This bothers me greatly and I wondered how many other people also look at the practical/downside of everything.
All I can think is how happy he is and how disappointed he will be if he doesn't get on. If he gets on he will be crushed if he doesn't win. IF he wins what does that do to his SSI?? I mean being on a game show is not sustainable income but if he won a substantial amount would he have to reapply? Would they just cut him off for a few months? He owes back taxes. Will the IRS just yank his winnings or will we see any of it?? All this swirls through my mind and I can't just enjoy the moment. I guess all I can say is WORRIERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!! ![]() |

I would probably worry the same way, although my main thought is that it sounds fake... who gets on a game show via Skype calls? |: Never heard of such things. Are business actually using Skype with their customers, now? What's next, ... Facebook?! Oh waaaait....

I'm not negative. I'm realistic. There's a difference.

Just a word on Skype...it's very common for Skype to be used to interview someone. People are frequently hired for high-level career positions over Skype. This is especially true when distance is involved.

Wow, seems so unprofessional, but I guess that's just because it's an alien concept to me. I know there's online conference calls and that, which has been around for years, but for a job interview and stuff? I guess it makes sense for something like an online job managing a website. Just not something I've really noticed floating about. My main thought is that it's super easy to set up a con for that, since anyone can get Skype, put on some nice clothes, and talk fancy.
RDV, do you have to give them any money? If so, I'd be very skeptical.

I don't think it is an abnormal worry. I have refrained from trying game shows because here if you show yourself able to do anything, they think you can work. But maybe they have a harsher attitude here. When I was still on sick leave for depression only I was scared going outside and look too happy.

No we don't have to give them any money. He went through the History channel website and had to email back and forth for days before he got the phone interview. We were told the reason for the Skype interviews were: 1) to see how photogenic you are. They said they know it isn't very PC but they have a look that they strive for. 2) They are located in Nevada and we are in Indiana so it's not like we can meet up for coffee somewhere. 3) They have asked him some oddball out there questions but they said getting to see how he reacts under pressure is crucial because they don't want someone on the show that is going to see strangers or a camera and freeze.
Trust and believe I am one of the biggest worry warts in the world and I always look for the scam in things or the downside. Hubby calls it being negative I call it being a responsible adult ![]() Well fingers crossed for hubby. After today's interview they have to review other candidates and we will hear back within 3 weeks if he's on or not. Quote:

![]() Go to My Profile and under Edit Options all the way at the bottom you will see Miscellaneous and under that is: Font Family Override If you want to override the fonts displayed in the forums, choose the font below. Choose the 'No override' at the top of the list to cancel the override. Then you can set it to whatever font is easiest for you to read. There is also an option for not seeing people's signatures, what color the font is displayed in, how big it is and several other nifty choices. I have mine set so I see everything in Comic Sans and it's purple. I don't know if you or anyone else out there will find this useful but I thought it might help someone. ![]() |

Ha, i don't have to look for it. The bad is out there and it's for all to see. I don't believe in a society that pretends bad stuff doesn't happen in the hope we all get on better. I just think we need to talk more, discuss what's bothering us and accept that once we've done that we can move on. I'd like complaining to be renamed - why is it 'complaining' if it's something we need to get off our chest so we can emotionally recover? Meh, i can fully accept that life sucks and the world is a bad place, but now that that's out there - lets change the subject.
