NEW FAMILY PET -

Tokay Geckos

The largest species in the family, and some males can grow to an impressive 12 to 14 inches in total length, with females slightly smaller. The Tokay's color and pattern is strikingly beautiful, and no two specimens look exactly alike. The base color can be off-white, grayish or various shades of blue, with orange red, brown or maroon colored splotches scattered over the entire dorsal area. The overall color tends to darken with age.

Tokay's get their name from vocalizations these lizards make that are described as a kind of "to'-ko," or "to'-kay" sound. Tokay's are highly vocal geckos and are capable of producing many different sounds: small dog bark, trills and shrills - and there every so familiar "to-kay" sound.

Tokay Geckos, if kept under the right conditions and given the correct diet can live between 10 and 15 years - we have two of them - male and female, breeding and hatching can take up to 7-10 months for one egg.

Tokay's are carnivores, or plainly put insectivores...... main diet consist of crickets, but they love to have worms from time to time... they can eat grasshoppers & %#@&#!-roaches as well and they have been known to eat fruit from time to time.

YEAAAAAH.............................................. and two of them (male & female).

Next PET in the family line up is either an Iguana or a Water Dragon.

And - then I am personally trying to obtain a Quaker Parrot or an African Grey.

congrats on your new pet...what beautiful colors...I remember when we had our gecko having to buy crickets all year, and sometimes one or two would not make it into the aquarium, and we would see them around the house...yikes...our gecko would turn different shades of greens, yellows, and beiges, and was not friendly at all..though our lizard, leaping, was very gentle...
