What do you think about celebrities and plastic surgery?

I'm not opposed to surgery. I even understand that they have to do plastic surgeries like facelift, eyelid lift, etc because the older celebrities want to look younger. And of course, plastic surgery is totally good if it's for medical reasons. But what if it's almost like an addiction? Some celebrities go way too overboard. Some having implants that are just way too outrageous. I even read of a celebrity who had 10 procedures done in a single day and almost died because of too much Demerol.

IMO, it's nothing but a pride thing because they can't & don't want to handle the aging thing like normal people do.

I know that there are many celebs that don't get caught up in that environment & the pressure & they do just fine in their careers....their parts just change as they get older & fit them as they age....it's the ones who don't want to do that that get caught up in their pride & their desire to find the fountain of youth.

I refuse to even color my hair......I am what I am & it's just something that one learns to live with........

There are other even more serious issues going on in the entertainment industry that lead to these behaviors that I think are even more serious problems but I think this is a symptom of those things.

Plastic surgery at best delays the appearance of age. The problem is, age will catch up and then overnight ... GAH! WTF happened to him!

Also, I say "at best" because these people that get botox injections just look weird. I mean what's up with that dead smile anyway?

This is supposed to be a before and after of Jennifer Aniston
Celebs and Plastic Surgery

Look what it did to her smile! She can't even curl up the sides of her mouth. It's like watching a mannequin try to be a real person. Like the sneer of a evil wizard. Fail.

Better to age gracefully than have it all happen overnight and end up looking like Joan Rivers.

It's not just celebs, this is becoming Very mainstream!
It scares me a bit---I see too many women (& men are getting in on it too) that look like they are eternally startled, and lack any subtle expression...
It especially scares me for young kids who are seeing this as the new normal

We're too thin.

We're too fat.

We're too fake.

Is there anything good enough for us anymore?

I don't even know what it means be "natural" now, because of how we have to be ****ing judged by every major and minor detail of our bodies now.

Why judge these celebrities?

They have the media on their asses all the time because of how well known they are. Photographers, news reporters, and magazines all have their eyes on them. Once they get up close as far as to stalk them, just one snapshot of a wrinkle, mole, a ****ING scratch and it's slandered all over America, feeding us this idiotic, benighted logic that "we" are suppose to be like them. Remember, the American people eat this up, and they get the notion in their heads that this is what's to be hated, considered unattractive, that it's all the latest raging trend.

They get judged for being imperfect, and they also get judged for being too perfect.
Thanks for this!

I completely understand people wanting to change how they look and I would definitely do that if I had the money. Though I feel that the business aspect of it has to be more heavier-ly regulated.

I want to make it clear that I don't judge them. I think its sad that they feel that it's necessary to do that.

I don't think that minor procedures are a bad thing. Actually, turkey necks are pretty bad on my mom's side of the family, so if I go in that direction, I know I will get a neck lift, but that's IT! I may avoid it as I take more after my dad's side of the family though.

Some celebs COMPLETELY change their look and it costs them their career. Jennifer Grey? Remember her from Dirty Dancing and Ferris Bueller? She had a nose job, became completely unrecognizable, and the only jobs she could get were on lifetime movies because she didn't even look like herself!

Barbara Streisand is no idiot! She has been asked about getting a nose job, but said she won't as it will change her look and yes, in this business, if you lose what makes you "you", then you can kiss your career goodbye!

And Rene Zelleweiger? She looks nothing like herself anymore. I'd be surprised if she gets a leading role in any other major movie (other than the final Bridget Jones installment).

I am disappointed when I look at one of my favorite actors or musicians and see they're had a bunch of cosmetic surgery because most of them look pathetic. Take Jackson Browne...the man is naturally extremely handsome and was aging nicely. Now he's had plastic surgery and looks stretched out of shape.

What puzzles me is that there are so many non radical procedures that are available to peope with money. (Did you know that when they do it, they peel your face back? *shudder* And there seem to be no shortage of men in the movies and on television who are not beauiflul, or anything even approaching that so called standard.

I adore Angelina for her good works with chidren and the fact that she and Brad pump millioms of their own money into their cause. And she's a hell of an actress. If God gives you a face and form tht makes you millions-give back!

I respect M. Streep for not giving into the pressure and she is, hands down, one of the best actress's in the business. And Helen Mirren? 67 and still gorgeous. Kathy Bates is no beauty but she is so comfortabe in herself that you have to like her, and again, a hell of an actress.

My heart goes out to Priscila Presley-once such a beauty. And gone are the days when an actress would be fired (Delta Burke) for gaining weight.

And didn't Kenny Rogers look like rainman for awhile?

I feel for these young girls who are so thin they look like skeletons.I admire Charlize Theon for allowing them to make her hidioudly ugly in Monster. And she walked away with an Oscar, not for her beauty, but for her acting. And it's the shapely but normal sized woman who are getting all the great parts.

It shoud be about their acting, not their looks. Or their personal life. I like to hear about their extraordinary deeds of giving, but many do in on the down low, not looking for the publicity.

But Keanu can do anything he likes. My fan crush will never waver!

I was very surprised myself. I wouldn't have recognized her except her name was already written. I saw some of her before and after plastic surgery procedures and boy, did she change.

I'm not judging them. I just feel disappointed and sad that they'd go very far and risk even their own lives just to be able to stay on the spotlight.
