This was my first experiment with watercolor pencils.....there is a YouTube example that I followed & drew the picture similar to the Daffodil example on the tutorial.....I definitely don't have the number of watercolor pencils that I need for really doing this even though I can blend colors, it's easier to have the different colors as I found with my acrylic painting.....turned out not bad for my first try:

Well, it's really not that different than artists painting, or drawing, or even doing graphic art - like for comic books and stuff.

Except that you don't have to be able to draw! I have no artistic talent whatsoever and the concentration span of a jittery 5 yr old but I love colours, so colouring is amazing for me ![]() |

I do ok if I have something to copy.....to generate it with my own imagination or even with nature staring me in the face...I have trouble with. I always remembered the horrible time I had painting in grade school.....LOL...I hated art...I couldn't even draw good lollypop trees. For some reason a few years ago, all of a sudden it hit me to try....started with acrylics. I actually loved this one painting magazine because it had all the pictures that you could trace from & then paint them.....that was more my style but I have sketched a lot of things copying an example that turns out ok.
I really like the way the water colors turn out. I would think they would have sort of coloring books for them (haven't looked)...you color like with colored pencils & then wash them with water...or like the background, you wash the paper with water & then with a wet brush, dab on the colored pencil & they run together...I didn't have my paper as wet as she did in the example but it blended well. I had a huge set of colored pencils in California that I left there (I need to get them sent here).....that was why I liked that idea of the baby oil being used with the colored pencils to make the colors even more radiant. I definitely love coloring, painting or anything else...especially when I really have something more important to do..LOL...this is what I did instead of practicing piano for church as our organist was gone this weekend......I was in the mood to experiment & see what it would turn out like. YouTube has some really wonderful tutorials on lots of different painting, drawing & coloring tips.....it's definitely relaxing even when I was procrastinating.

I bought my first coloring book
![]() ![]() Mine is with flowers. I'd like to try also one with mandalas...I just colored one once (for this I discovered that I could have liked a coloring book). I think that I'll use crayons. Anyone uses other kind of colours, like markers? I don't know if they would be good for this. |

I can't draw pictures to save my life. Ages ago when I was in hospital I did color in some mandalas and other pictures. I treated myself to some oil pastels and just made some very nice shapes. Today somebody gave me a Creative Therapy (anti stress) colouring book. So me thinks it might be time to check out my pencils and have some fun. Who cares if I don't color within the lines all the time.

Colouring got me through a really rough time recently. I still colour on weekends while Mr. Tea Biscuit watches sports.
I find a lot of the colouring pages aimed at adults a bit overwhelming. It can be difficult to find pages that are aimed at older children/adults - not too simple, but not too complicated either, but they're out there and I'm grateful. I colour with Crayola super tips markers. I recently bought the 50 colours package and it suits my needs. |

This colouring book worked well for me:
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/0486...ilpage_o09_s00 Very cheery pictures, not too sophisticated and not too simple. I photo copy the pictures in the book so I can colour with markers without bleed through and use the same ones over again if I want. I've ordered this one: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/0448...ilpage_o03_s00 ...but it's taking it's time getting here. I'll post my impressions of it once it arrives. ETA: sorry, those are the Canadian Amazon links, but I'm pretty sure they can be found on Amazon.com. I know Book Depository (UK) has lots of adult colouring books - most seem a bit too detailed for me....maybe when I'm feeling better... |

Oh those colouring books like wonderful to trace onto watercolor paper or even acrylic paper (LOL...My color pencils are still in California & I may never get them here).
I have always wanted to paint peacock feathers & decided to give it a try with my new watercolor pencils.....was curious to see how they would turn out. First one I did with colors I thought peacock feather would look like they I got a real one to check out the colors...the brown one is closer to the real feather just not as dark. I really like using the watercolor pencils as it gives it a color pencil ability along with the painting ability to soften the look & blend. ![]()

I love coloring! My mom used to buy me a Christmas coloring book every holiday (well into my late 20s) and I still color often, I find it to be relaxing and fun. I bought a few coloring books from Hobby Lobby recently, thought maybe I could use some more adult designs, but I still use kid books, too!
