Not to derail my own thread or anything but I'm just curious: why would you make your username your real name and post a picture of yourself on this forum? Mental health is one of the most widely scrutinized things out there and I wouldn't want my real name or face associated with a forum like this because it's easy to do a simple Google search and link somebody to your profile if you do that which makes one's professional and social life much harder.

This question isn't for just you but anybody who would make either their name or real photo or both part of their profile.

Other than that, thanks everybody for the awesome answers so far!

I chose my avatar because it's bright and colorful and represents not only the color wheel you learn in any basic art class, but the pride I possess for my bisexuality. It was a most healthy and liberating time in my life when I accepted that part of myself and I like to have something I can see on a regular basis that reminds me to never let anyone, let alone myself, try and convince me that I am morally wrong for the way I was born.

My SN was chosen because I am a chick and I love and create art in various ways, which I find very chic. The numbers in it represent the month and day my beloved uncle lost his struggle with Bipolar Disorder and took his life (he had a manic episode where he stopped taking his meds and swung down to severe depression and, yeah). I never want to forget him as he was a simple yet kind soul who is greatly missed. He had a sort of customary way of starting each day, by telling a joke to his family. He did this so they would have something to smile about and make their day that much brighter.

I also choose the date because it was at his funeral that I realized the full pain a suicide can have on loved ones and vowed I wouldn't follow in my uncle's footsteps and be the cause of such pain. I also was awed by the turnout of mourners come to pay their respects. I figured I have a few more things to do and more lives to touch to get such a turnout at mine. All in all, it was an eye opening experience for me.

My user name ending in GT5 is out of respect and admiration for Kazunori Yamauchi. Gran Turismo is a long running racing game series. Yamauchi's passion for developing this game and his commitment to perfecting his craft are things I want to emulate in my own life.

My avatar is Nathan Drake (as depicted in Uncharted 4) Drake is a charismatic, bold and very cool adventurer. He is the guy at the bar surrounded by a crowd which holds mesmerized as he regales them with his tales of daring do, he is in so many ways the man I wish I could be.

I think it depends on the person's career choice or if everyone in their lives already know about their mental health issues and do not judge them for it....That's how it is for me. I post pictures of myself in my photo albums, but I make the albums private. I think it's cool when people use their own picture of themselves as their avatar...it's means their not afraid.

My username is from breadfish.co.uk

My avatar was one I liked from the PC avatars I could choose from (or I'd have to upload one myself, which I wasn't feeling up to). I could change it to a picture of a breadfish from the link above, but I'm afraid people won't recognize me anymore if I do.
Thanks for this!

Umm there are lots of Christina's in the world and my pic? Why not. It's one of the few pics of me I like lol. It's not like anyone is going waste time tracking and stalking me. Stigma? Sure there is but do I care? Nope.

In the world, yes. But you also listed your exact birthday, age, appearance, and the state in which you live in.

I don't want to scare you because you seem like a nice lady who means well, but if somebody were to want to do you harm, the information you provided would make it easy for somebody to track you down. Why put yourself at the mercy of others?

I would be more worried about other members of this site more than anything. This is a mental health forum after all and there is likely a lot of people here who aren't right in the head who could be triggered by something you say even if you mean well and seek to do you harm.

I'm merely trying to help and I won't utter another word about this topic on this thread so if anybody wants to talk more about this, send me a PM and don't reply here if all possible.

No matter, I applaud the bravery of those who would be brave enough to post their personal information publicly on this site; I could never be that brave in 1,000 years.
Thanks for this!

Thank you for your concern, the reality is it would be very hard for someone to track me down as there are lots of Christina's and I'm pretty generic looking also. Plus I live in the middle of bfe and most all GPS's are unable to find my house. Closest the come is about 5 miles away lol. If my using this forum for mental illness support became public knowledge it isn't going to change how I live my life any way.

My avatar is out of respect for the oceans, their beauty, and all the critters in it. I am an avid diver and breed fish to cut down on wild caught fish for the pet industry.

As for my user name, it is a mistake. I had been up with insomnia for over two weeks. One night in particular was missing good friends, the warmer climate as we were buried under 4 feet of snow, and the home I moved from with my lovely gardens with beautiful, lovely smelling flowers including freesia that does not grow here, when I came across this site. I mistyped it but the misspelling imperfection goes more with the flaws in me than the perfection of the flower so it makes for the perfect user name for me.

For my avatar, I am a fan of bleach.
As for my user name, MissLabarinth was created; because my personality
On the 'outside' is like a maze, labyrinth; you have to take all the right turns to understand me,
If not; your at a dead end. As for it being MissLAbarinth instead of MissLabyrinth is because my first name begins with an A.

They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they've never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. My avatar is of me. I chose it because I like it. It reminds me of a better time. And also I've spent much of my life feeling invisible and unimportant, so I just wanted to be seen.

My avatar picture is of Ruvik from The Evil Within game. It's basically a survival horror shooter game where you're trapped in a subconscious interlinked world that is generated by the thoughts and memories of each person inside. Ruvik is the main bad guy who was one of the first developers of the project and has a degree of control over the world which he uses to make monsters to send after you and to randomly change the environment and appear and disappear to make your life difficult while being immune to conventional gunfire so he's basically God of his world. He might seem like a typical evil villain but he has a deep backstory which I identify with.

Basically as a kid he had high intelligence which made it hard for him to identify with other kids or make friends and his parents were neglectful and abusive of him and his sister was the only person who loved and understood him. Well she died and he became disfigured from a fire (hints the scaring on his head and chest) which caused further abuse from his parents because of his appearance and the only other person he had left who understood him was a scientist who mentored him which caused him to want to make the world you're trapped in originally as an attempt to bring his sister back to life which of course failed and caused him to go crazy.

I identify with his character and backstory because I had high intelligence as a child too so I know what it's like to have trouble making friends along with abusive family and nobody to understand you and I see it as symbolic as I often struggle with my inner darkness and I have to work to try to contain said inner darkness so that I can be a decent person.

I also would give anything to have a world of my own where I can be free to do whatever I want and be free of the emotional pain that plagues me daily while having absolute control over my future and destiny and having superpowers that make me special and unique rather than a mere human.

Plus he looks so badass haha

My username signifies my fear of letting people close to me and my difficulties trusting others which makes the darkness my friend metaphorically speaking. I hide in the shadows letting very few people see the real me. I frequently show others only what they would want to see about me and I often isolate myself or push others out of my life.

Sorry for getting so deep haha I wanted to share this and I'm eager to hear what you guys have to share
My avatar image is an actual picture of me (a few years ago), and I use my real name here. My idea is to play around a little bit with what I actually am, rather than some more "desirable" on-screen persona.

My username & avatar are related... I'm sure some of you might already know where they come from.

And that is from the Wheel of Time series of books by Robert Jordan. I've been a huge fan of them for around 10 years now, despite not actually finishing them yet. (the way I see it I get to enjoy them even longer by dragging out my reading of the books)

Loial is a character in the books whilst the wolf symbol is taken from one of the pieces of artwork at the beginning of the chapters.

I picked my avatar because it's a cow, and my username refers to a cow. Pretty obvious I suppose! I've had a thing about cows for a while now - I'm not really sure why! Hehehe.
