I've given out lots of hugs too....which is strange cause in real life I'm not a hug person at all.

Lol...I just added another one to my count hugging your post. I find that I use the hugs to acknowledge I read a post when no time to reply or don't have the words for a reply....2700 is a nice round number

I get really excited if my-or, when I worked as a cashier, my customer's-total at the market or thrift shop is a palindrome. And I will share said excitement as though the numbers upon the screen hold the secret to eternal youth. "Look! You're total is the same backwards and forwards." Said I to a woman whose total was $ 10.01. She was not at all amused by this fact, which could only lead me to the conclusion that she was a rather dull person. As was the cashier at the thrift-shop the other day.
There was no point to the story; I simply thought it appropriate to share my own number-related geekiness. I also really prefer to do things by threes.
What, if you wouldn't mind elaborating, is your reasoning behind enjoying the number 2,700 so much?

Like you I like numbers. I would like your palindrome numbers. And you're right. Most other folks don't notice or care. It's not the actual number 2700, it's that I noticed the number when it was exactly 2700, not 2703 or 2697. I don't pay attention to the number of hugs I've given, but the number jumped off the page at me. I'm such a geek about this sort of thing that I pulled off the road and took a picture of my truck's odometer when it read 123,456.

Talking about numbers....the first house we bought new...picked out model & location..the lot #was 33. We bought a time share in Jackson Hole Wyo. the room # they gave us was #33. The second brand new house we bought...again picked location by lot size & model....that lot # was 33 & the zip code there had 2 3's in it (93535).

I left my H & found the farm I liked & bought. The zip again has 2 3's in it (40330) & the street I live on has a highway number associated with it that also has 2 3's in the number....the first digit of my house number would be 3x3.....can't believe how many times that # has come up in my life now.

Forgive me if this is off topic, but I would be interested to know if anyone assigns personalities to certain numbers. For example, I always imagine that "9" is the stern, older brother of "6". 6 is very open and friendly, whereas 9 is much more reserved and serious. 7 is a bit of a perfectionist, or he seems that way. He is very goal-oriented. 1 is seen as very stuck-up, but really, she is just quiet. She enjoys solitary nights. 2 is shy-unlike 1, who is introverted-and has a sweet nature. She can be a bit clingy when in an unfamiliar setting. I won't go on listing every number and their personalities, as that would be ridiculous.

Middaynap, never thought of assigning personalities to numbers, but it sounds interesting.

I tend to just assign personalities to whether I like to be around them or not....I tend to think of lines as having infinite number of points & personalities as sort of a spectrum thing....I even have a problem assigning a # to how I'm doing in therapy...close but never at a specific number....maybe my years of advanced math for my computer degree messed up my concept of specific numbers concept

Maybe we should move this particular one to a new thread. I've heard of a personality typing system called the Enneagram (9-writing) where numbers actually are associated with personality types....

But for right now, what's the emoticon for a "grouphug"?

It was interesting,,,,in junior high my home room was 210. I always remembered that one classroom number & never realized why until the year 2010.....then I finally correlated why those #'s felt comfortable & stuck in my memory....my birthday is 2/10.... Duh..it was so obvious when i realized it.

I was never particularly fond of mathematics at school. I'm not sure why. I think if I'd applied myself more I would have liked it more but for some inexplicable reason it just got thrown by the wayside.

However, since then I've come to appreciate the connection between numbers. I like seeing the relationships between them.

Many years ago I got this book:

I am such a geek!

Quote:
School maths is not the interesting part. The real fun is elsewhere. Like a magpie, Ian Stewart has collected the most enlightening, entertaining and vexing 'curiosities' of maths over the years...Now, the private collection is displayed in his cabinet.

There are some hidden gems of logic, geometry and probability - like how to extract a cherry from a cocktail glass (harder than you think), a pop up dodecahedron, the real reason why you can't divide anything by zero and some tips for making money by proving the obvious. Scattered among these are keys to unlocking the mysteries of Fermat's last theorem, the Poincaré Conjecture, chaos theory, and the P/NP problem for which a million dollar prize is on offer. There are beguiling secrets about familiar names like Pythagoras or prime numbers, as well as anecdotes about great mathematicians. Pull out the drawers of the Professor's cabinet and who knows what could happen...
It's really rather interesting, although I will admit I still haven't finished reading it yet... (I believe the author has published another 2 similar books since then too)

Oh, I'd not heard of Enneagram before, thank you. This appears to be a method of assigning numbers to personalities, however, not personalities to numbers.
I hope it wasn't rude to bring up something so off-topic, I was just curious if others imagined numbers as characters (I suppose is the best word) as well. (Bah, perhaps I've an overly-active imagination.)
