cakeladie,

I'm so sorry you had to go through chemo.

And your hubby sounds like a wonderful man.

Maybe go to the beauty school once and get to know the stylist? Discreetly ask if she might want to work on you on the side? Just a thought.

You seem a 'whole hog' sort of lass, LL - so go the whole hog for your car.

Shave your head to save the cost of dye and hairdressers.

Ooooooh, Cakeladie! I like the idea of colored extensions. They can be changed at will and protect your hair. Great idea!

It's interesting because my grandmother used hair die for so long & nail polish, she started having really bad allergic reactions because of the die & the chemicals in the nail polish & she had to stop using EVERYTHING.....I took a lesson from that & use NOTHING....I have too many other places my money needs to go to & I pick very carefully what I spend the money on.

Same for me as your granny - i never used lipstick except very rarely but i got a reaction to it like that bulb gloss problem recently? But i would attribute it to having dyed my hair since my late 20's cuz i went gray pretty early and was trying to maintain a professional appearance.

I think it's very important to have a "splurge" account. WIthout it, it's easy to spend like crazy. Sort of like restricting all sweets on diet doesn't work because you go all crazy.

Lark, Eskie and Unaluna mention allergic reactions to the chemicals. That reminded me of a story I saw about Paulie Perette (sp?), the actress who plays Abby on NCIS. She has to dye her hair every couple of weeks for the show. Last fall she was rushed to the emergency room when she had an allergic reaction to using the dye so often. Maybe you could explore alternatives to dying your hair so often?
Thanks for this!

I say try getting your hair done once and see how you like it and how long it lasts. You can decide from there if you want to keep doing it. We all deserve to pamper ourselves once in awhile if we can swing it.
