I think it's the best thing that happened this summer. I was too bored on my vacation, and this has helped me a lot to run away from being depressive. Made me walk out of my house, when I would not have done it otherwise.
Only problem is that I'm getting bored with it.

This is going to be a much longer and more detailed version of the afore mentioned explination. So get comfy, you might be reading a full blown novel by the time I'm done.

Pokemon, or Pocket Monsters as they are sometimes called, are the brain child of Satoshi Tijiri, a game designer who thought it would be fun to recapture a favorite pastime of his as a child, catching and collecting bugs. He felt that such pastimes were fast becoming forgotten as new technology came into play and had kids sitting inside all the time. He wanted to impassion young minds to go out and collect things again.

So, he created a game where little pocket sized monsters were captured and stored in capsules (much like very popular plastic gashopon capsules that hold little random prises when despensed from gashopon machines in Japan). Eventually though, the capsule idea was scraped for the ball style containment devices we know today, otherwise known as Pokeballs.

Over time, 151 unique creatures were originally created and collectively called pocket monsters, or Pokémon for short (over the successive years, a total of over 751 different Pokémon have been created, and there seems to be no end in sight) They were to be hidden randomly in the game for the player to find and collect. The kicker, however, was that there were two different versions of the same game that were made and each version had pokemon exclusive to it, meaning the player had to find a friend with the version they didn't have to successfully collect all the different Pokemon.

Some Pokémon are rarer than others, and the more common and weak pokemon can be trained in combat to gain experience and given enough of it, will "evolve" into a new and more powerful pokemon. There are even some so rare and powerful they are known as "legendary" Pokemon. Not only that, but each Pokémon has an alternate colored form known as a "shiny" that is exceedingly rare to find. Many players spend hours hunting them down.

Pokémon who are simular in appearance or in their attacks are grouped together in what are known as types. You have Fighting type pokemon, Rock type pokemon, Water, Plant, Fire and so on. It tends to get rather complicated, especially when you delve into pairing up two different Pokémon to breed. Then you deal with their stats and things called EVs and IVs, and even the chance of it being the rare "shiny version" (which is a random and rare occurance when the egg hatches). This is at the game's deepest level of complexity and your basically plugging in very complex and advanced Formulae to successfully breed a truly strong, "shiny" pokemon. Some players take this part of game play very seriously.

To show off that perfectly bred pokemon after countless hours of formula work and eggs producing less than ideal specimens, people compete in battles, sometimes even a tournament. It's mostly for bragging rights, but some Pokémon tournaments have prizes in the form of money and/or rare Pokémon merchandise.

So thank Satoshi for creating the ever popular franchise and it's booming success over the years....or not, it's up to you.

We went to a place we were sure was an important landmark (it was, an Onix was lurking there), and some other people came too. I was so sure they were playing but they were tourists actually checking out the history. It almost shocked me.

Most my battles use Flareon, Vaporeon, Magmar, Gengar Slowbro and Tentacruel.

I don't have a Muk, Lapras, Dragonite or Gyardos, common monsters to hold gyms, and my Snorlax is ridiculously weak.

Still, I easily collect rewards from 3-4 gyms a day if I go out there.

I was for a while, stopped going out when the weather got bad. It was a good excuse to get me outside and exercising while it lasted though.

No Igglybuff so far....

Depending I can get 3 gyms in one day, then not play for a day or so. But maybe 8 gyms a week that way. But also one gym is always free since like 2 months. No one has been out there in ages, ha ha. I hope my Slowbro likes it out there. It seems people haven't fought that gym since fall. OK, it is in nowhere, it helps.

I'm still playing with one of my sons. Was great, the other day, standing in line at the post office next to a more mature woman than myself, who had her game open.

I'm currently using pikachu as my buddy. The pickachu with the hat, of course.
