I have a son stationed in N Italy right now, and after just seeing the military in Turkey doing...'something'...uprise, coup, God knows what...I am scared as h.e.l.l. for my son...force protection is at it's highest level since 9/11. Not to mention the a-hole that drove a truck through Nice, FR at the Bastille Day celebration. I am So scared something is going to happen to him. It would be more understandable if he was in a combat role, which he is not. I'm just scared for him to walk across his town!

This world is in some serious F'd up shape right now and I'm frankly almost afraid to step out my door. I"m in the US but that doesn't mean crap anymore in regards to safety. This totally sucks.

My daughter lives in Europe. I am petrified 24/7. The world is a scary place right now. I try not to think or I'll lose my mind. Sending you hugs

I know this is gonna make you mad but there is a bigger chance they die in a car crash than be a victim of terrorism. I "know" they are gonna strike near me eventually but I don't wanna spend my days frightened. It's enough I have several anxiety disorders...

I bet you are more scared than your kids and imagine all kinds of things. But... life is never safe. Safety is an illusion.

I'm not trying to invalidate your emotions but if things get worse, your kids will probably choose to return home.

jimi...not mad at all...as parents, we worry about our kids from the moment we know they have been conceived. Goes with the job. my son has no choice of returning until his time is up with the army. thankfully it appears things are getting put under control again in Turkey at this time.
I have a couple of anxiety disorders too, along with other stuff...hugs to you

Don't worry. Some countries are more unstable than others and Turkey is one of those. Europe in general is pretty safe. I really
Fancied going to Istanbul as it looks a fascinating city but maybe not atthe moment. Although there is something to be said for contrary thinking and going somewhere just after an incident eg Egypt a while ago as a)security is stepped up and b) less tourists, lower prices and more space.
I go to London quite often and only fleetingly think about something happening though I kinda think something will in the not too distant future. Maybe our security servces are better than the French but you can't legislate for a crazy loner on a mission to kill as many people as possible. You gotta just live your life.
Thanks for this!

Germany? I am jealous, for reasons you can probably derive from my signature and name! Wish I could travel the globe like that.

That shooting that happened in the movie theater in Co was only 1 1/2 blocks away from where my daughter lives. She wasn't at the movie that night but that's been several years ago & she says she still can't get herself to go to the movies any more.

I don't have a TV & don't get the streaming on my computer. Don't want to pay & living in the country the connection isn't good anyway. 9 years without TV but I get news from the Internet though that time I hadn't heard about the shooting when she texted me the next morning that she was ok. I had to research what she was ok from & that was when I found out what happened. We do worry about our kids more that ourselves from my own personal experience.....I understand your concern with the state the world is in you never know what will happen next or where or to who....& we know so little about the thinking of terrorists & there is so much behind the scene that we have no idea about who is involved with who & why that it makes it that much worse on our fear emotions.

Total gunfire incicdents thus far in 2016 in USA = 29,100 Gun Violence Archive

I'm far more frightened of what happens domestically

In the US, Automobile accidents take a larger toll on human life than guns do:

Real Time Traffic Accident Statistics (Deaths, Injuries and Costs)

Less worried about gun violance than getting in a fatality traffic accident
