I hope that at least some of you realized that the title is a line from a movie

If not, I hope that you are not offended by the title ! Hence, the trigger icon.

Did you watch the movie "Girl, Interrupted" ? I'm watching it right now, for the 597th time, with a glass of dark red beside me.

If you haven't, I highly recommend this movie to anyone interested in a movie about mental illness (BPD in particular). Or, if you like Angelina Jolie. I admit that I, for the most part, can't stand Angelina Jolie, but her acting in this movie is friggin superlative ! I fell in love with her in this movie !

If you have watched it, I'd love to hear what you thought of the movie and/or the various characters in it !

About the word "diagnonsense" ... I think it's a totally apt word because I think that identifying with a diagnosis (a big mistake I made in the past) can really take one down a dark and hopeless path.

Also, more generally, we really need to take life less seriously, including what the medical field labels us as.

I can appreciate that. For some, however, a diagnoses can make the world of difference, validating someone's problems and providing answers that lead to treatment. I went years thinking all sorts of horrible things about myself because of my OCD (intrusive thoughts, in this case) but when I was effectively diagnosed and treated (not cured, sadly) it was a huge weight off my shoulders because it meant that it really was a real thing as I expected for many years, rather than my just being a horrible person.

I've long ago lost count of how many times I've watched 'Girl, Interrupted.' What an outstanding movie it is! Have you read the book?

Awesome !

Yes, I've read the book. The book disappointed me, though. It was not as entertaining as the movie.

What did you think of the book ?

Yes, a diagnosis can help some. Even in that case, it is only useful within the context of therapy/treatment, worthless outside of that.

For others, it's totally meaningless and worthless. Like for me. Not one good thing came out of my diagnonsense.

Meh, I've not gotten a very specific diagnosis, just general psychosis. Basically I'm you're average mentally ill woman that doesn't fall into any specific category of mental illness.

I've long since learned that a diagnosis, well useful to some, isn't the end all cure all for me. I'm pretty stable, for the most part, and have learned to avoid people in general who bring out the demons within me. Yeah, they pretty much stay quiet otherwise.

The movie was definitely better than the book was. I did enjoy reading the book, though. I found it interesting to find out where the characters came from.
