I just read an article about things a man over 40 shouldn't do.
38 Things No Man Over 40 Should Own

A few months ago I read something similar for women over 50. Who gets to make these rules?

What's "wrong" with an adult having a roommate? (included in above article) Not everyone wants to be married. Not everyone who is single wants to live alone.

What's "wrong" with giving a friend who needs it a place to crash? Seems to me that's being a decent friend.

The rule about no flip-flops for men over 40 must have been written by a yankee. Here in the South they are a staple in footwear. Nah, not appropriate to wear to the office, but the beach or a picnic? H e l l yeah! (that's another Southernism)

The article for women said no t-shirts with sayings. WTF?!?! I own a stack of them. I pick which to wear based on my mood for the day. Again, not appropriate office wear, but for casual times? HecK yeah! Though I confess I sometimes wear one to work under a sweater so the saying doesn't show on days I need to express myself, even it it's only to myself.

The anti-baseball cap comment really irked me. Yet again, not appropriate for the office, but if I'm out and about and need to keep the sun off my face I'm going to wear one of my ballcaps! I don't know if this is a Southern thing or a rural thing, but ballcaps are everywhere around here and no one looks twice.
Thanks for this!

I had to LOL at #10 on the men's list. Chocolate scented intimate deodorant? Nothing says manly like having your junk smell like a sweet treat, I suppose.

Oh, yes...those articles are so ridiculous. I see them about anything and everything. Click-bait And plenty of men over 40 wear flip-flops here...sheesh. And baseball caps.

Eh, it was just a joke article. I'm happy to say I have never seen a person wearing bowling shoes outside a bowling alley. I still have to ask my husband to remove his baseball cap when we eat in restaurants-- every time! My sister pulls out her acoustic guitar at every party-- even her wedding!

they are probably laws from long ago that someone found and threw together... example when I went to another state to visit some family friends I thought they were going to die of shock when I opened a box of oatmeal you know the instant kind you just add hot water to, for my children. I asked them what was wrong and they said its illegal to eat cereal on sunday, I thought they were pulling my leg but they showed me that in town laws that there was indeed a law that said no eating cereal on sunday. stupid law for now but back then it wasnt because sunday was the day of rest even for women who did the cooking of oats into cereal.

my point somewhere some time there probably was a town that had problems arising from these things in the link so they had to make rules about them... when you think about it flip flops and men over 50 may have been a problem, 50 isnt old age now but it was sometime ago where 50 year olds were considered old, tripping over their feet and such, many people now days cant wear flip flop style shoes because they dont have the co ordination and such to keep them on. back in older times it could have been dangerous to have a roommate. they had homes and inns, a roommate could kill you in your sleep and take over your gold claim and so on... again my point these may have been laws and rules that made sense many years ago...

when I read things like this besides what I already wrote I also take into consideration we life in world of fake news... and the internet. I live by the motto of not believing everything I read online. no reason for me to get all worked up about something I read online when I have more important things to get worked up over.

Is it a joke article? I didn't take it that way, but what he wrote really is a joke, Lol.

For #2, it made me think of this 60-something year old guy my parents are friends with. His family throws parties and he always ALWAYS brings his guitar out and plays American Pie and all those old 60s songs, LOL. It's actually quite lovely. Albeit, a bit hilarious too.

I found it difficult to read the article but the impression I got this is only a gag.

Completely serious were my mother's old Victorian rules of etiquette - like no white after Labour Day, grown men should wear hats, etc.

Honestly, most of these articles are made just for the clicks therefore the clickbait title. The journalists just need something to write about in order to make money. Stupid, yeah.

Just throw in some stupid stereotypes and the journalists' own judgement and voila! a modern day clickbait article.

It's been a while since I seen one of those "you can't wear it because you're too old" posts. Complete BS--by my age I'll wear what I want and not care what other people think. Same goes for my husband.

Whether or not this particular article is a joke or just for clicks--and I can't stand how so many "list" articles have gone to where you have to click every single time just to see one damn thing in the list...really, no thanks, too much work to read the article--unfortunately, there is an increasing number of people out there who are really this picky and judgmental about what men and women should not do, wear, say, etc, at certain ages. That's why it's so hard to date nowadays.

Staff writers with a deadline, so they just make junk up?
