My favorite tradition for Christmas morning is when my dad makes homemade cinnamon rolls from frozen bread dough he buys at the store. It's not Christmas morning for me unless there are those rolls to eat. We also spend Christmas Eve making and eating hors d'oeuvres and washing them down with some eggnog and rum drinks.

What traditions do you all have for the holiday season?

We gather for a large Italian feast on Christmas Eve and each person gets one gift to open.

My Sister and I go to Christmas Eve Mass and then go to my Parents house for a take out curry and to watch White Christmas every year.

Won't happen this year as Mum is in the hospital as she had a stroke on 21st Nov. So either she will be in the hospital or she will be in the rehabilitation centre. So we will be spending it with her

I celebrate Yule.

Doing so arose years ago out of a necessity when my children were young and their father and I shared custody. On those years he had them for Christmas and I wished to have a special day of our own, Santa would come and a big meal was held on the 21st. It has been a tradition that has stuck even now that my kids are grown adults. On the 21st or the days leading up to Christmas I still hold a big party for friends and family.

The past few years my holiday tradition has been hanging out on PC. Partly because im single, and partly because i never developed a close relationship with my cousins or other relatives, i dont really fit in anywhere.

Eta - but! I do make some special traditional dishes for myself. Like cod, and ravioli or gnocchi, and sometimes i will roast a turkey leg if i am feeling paricularly ambitious. I eat cheesy green beans all year long (im counting nucheez in that, or whatever they call it) so im good there!

We do everything on Christmas Eve. So, I make cinnamon rolls for breakfast, from scratch. This year I will be adding a streusel apple pie along with the usual ham, potatoes, stuffing, and green bean casserole.

We also open presents once the kids are up. Since daughter's boyfriend may be working this year we might have to wait, but we'll see.

Christmas day my daughter and her boyfriend will be at his parent's house. We may join them this year, depending upon our health.

What I love is the weekend after Thanksgiving, when we decorate the house and put the trees up. My daughter usually does the big tree, but we all did it this year. I have a small tree in my home office and I enjoy it.

I usually let my kids open a Christmas present on Christmas eve. I always cook dinner every year on Christmas day. I usually have my MIL staying over at Christmas because she is on her own.

I usually bake cookies with my nephews and nieces the day before Christmas Eve.In our family we celebrate on Christmas Eve. That`s when we have our traditional food and open gifts. Christmas day is usually a kick back day for us.

In my own family I had started an Advent tradition with my young daughter. I made a board with a path on it & a hill covered in craft moss. Sat next to the manger scene. Each day of advent we would read an advent reading & Bible scripture & our young daughter at the time would move Mary & joseph (& of course the donkey)closer to the manger scene.

Beluef in Santa was NOT a part of Christmas which irritated my inlaws no end with their secular celebration of Christmas. They always threw a huge Christmas eve party which we went to AFTER doing the church activities & they tried hard to get our daughter to believe in Santa. They even had a santa come to their party & had our daughter oprn the door which she actuslly closed on him . It was cute & funny & we had fun as there were other young kids at the party that year.

Christmas eve was always about a church service which is not common where I live now. Novfamily to celebrate with. Life changes, traditions change.

Now I go caroling with my church group to the nursing home & to visit shut ins. I do most yimes still make the tea rolls for Christmas morning breakfast that my grandma, & my mom made.

Church & Christ's birth is still main focus even though we finallybknow that historically it didnt happen in December but actually in the early fall but its good to have a day of rememberance anyway to acknowledge Christ's birth.

Maybe if my house & life were more organized I would have more traditions built to enjoy. Traditions when alone arent as fun as they are sharing them with others

A Christmas tradition in my house is when the Drunkles argue about politics on the porch and then go over the railing into the rhododendrons.
Thanks for this!

Crackers, cheese, sausage chips and dips and punch for Christmas Eve. Homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast with smokies usually and orange juice, present opening after breakfast, among other traditions.

I read this thread and all sorts of things came to mind. However then I realized since it will be just me this year that I will either be adapting the old traditions or starting some new ones this year. I actually am not sure for the first time what I will do yet.

I did decorate this weekend though I wasn't so sure I was quite in the spirit of things, bitter sweet. The one that is staying consistent leading up to Christmas and maybe adding this year on Christmas day too is watching the Christmas Hallmark movies that the family used to watch these last few years. I will attempt to make my great grandmother's sand tart Christmas cookies to have for that day for a bit of home tradition, but knowing my baking skills, wish me luck!

We always make my grandmother's sourcream cookie recipe. When my mom was alive there was different traditions. Now that my mom is gone things are different. I used to make a stocking for my mom because she never had one as a child. After midnight mass, it would be waiting for her when she got home and would watch her dig into it while having egg nog and a cinnamon roll. Now things are a bit different since it is only my sister, brother and me.

the family used to have huge get-togethers before my gram died, stuffing our faces over football. my dad and i left california years ago though and can't afford to fly, so we just watch the nightmare before christmas and do a few presents. mostly we shower our dog in stocking stuffers now. he used to make a special breakfast but it doesn't work now that i'm vegan, so i think i'll wrangle something up this year, maybe some cinnamon rolls.

Me and my brother usually watch "Christmas with the Joker" from the 90s Batman cartoon on Christmas Eve then on Christmas day we go to my other brother's house and spend time with his family, eat stuff like sausage balls, cheese and crackers, dip, canned ham, other goodies and punch then, watch some TV, open presents and before we leave receive bags of fruit and nuts or homemade candy, cookies and cakes and later that night watch "It's a Wonderful Life" or "The Little Drummer Boy" Rank and Bass version and that's about it.

No they're hilarious, completely harmless. Just out of hand. That actually only happened once but the story is told often. It usually involves bickering during the late football game and everyone tells them to shut up or leave the room. If my sister brings her yellow lab, he'll calm everyone down. But with the election in Alabama, it should be an interesting Christmas.
