Friends,

Who here has problems throwing things out?

What is hardest for you to dispose of?

I moved to this smaller house so it would be harder to keep stuff (got rid of 75+ of the old stuff) and I've only been here 2 years now and it's too full (was at my old house 20 years). I even rent a storage unit but haven't been able to sort stuff to go there, all that's there (at exorbitant prices :-) is a few Christmas decorations!

used to.

lost a lot when i lost my house, then chose to give most things up when I moved across the country.

It feels really good to live with little.

now I live with very little and like it. yet, somehow after cleaning 2 closets a few weeks ago I had half a car load for Goodwill!.

Hardest to get rid of is anything with sentiment attached.

Pre-Katrina i was to a point. I never noticed how much crap i had till i had to gut my house. Now, i dont want nothing, except for neccessities. I've already made it known to family and friends to not give me gifts for any occasion. I guess i'm kinda scared too, to own anything again. I dont want to loose it again.

I'm a great packrat, lol. The oldest item is a green
duffle bag I've hung onto since '71' Someone wrote that
as we go through stages in life we give more things (stuff)
away or ditch to concentrate on family & friends and new
experiences. Hardest to give up would be old letters and
nick-nacks.

Hubby says I am, but all I hoard is fabrics and a few craft items.

On the other hand, the 100 sq foot storage shed, outside of it and around the motor home is all kinds of "men things" that have no place and no use. I can't make the back part of the carport "my secret garden" because of all his accumulated crap! Who else is a pack rat? ... Who else is a pack rat?

Hey Septembermorn, Maybe Hubby could find a way to sell or
auction off some items that he doesn't need. Also hint a
little bit about fresh veggies and/or ask him if he knows
a good junk dealer who might pay per truck load.
Just a suggestion.

Not me.. I don't think I ever was a "pack rat". I think the most I ever "held on to" may have been fabric and crafts. From yarn to beads to ceramics and tons of fabric paints. I even made and sold holiday wreaths. Not sure how I did all those crafts, because now I would be lost, to even attempt to paint a t-shirt or sew a pot holder.

When I lost my house, everything had to go. What I did not give away, I sold in yard sales at a fraction of the price I paid. I found "good homes" for my beautiful Persian carpets and bedroom furniture. Odd, the carpets were the hardest to let go, because they were sooo beautiful. I couldn't carry them as they were sooo very heavy. As for the beds, for some reason I have problems sleeping on beds, so they were easy to give away. I never slept on them.

Now, what I can't lift or carry I don't need or want. Besides, I hate rooms "cluttered" with stuff I never use. So if I don't use it, I don't want it.. Makes life easier for me..

I try not to hoard things but often find myself thinking "I might just be able to use this later". I find it hard to get rid of my son's old schoolbooks - he worked so hard in them only to have them thrown out.

I hate clutter and I think I cleverly disguise my hoarding things by making sure everything is very neat!

Yesterday I cleaned out my clothing cupboard and forced myself to be ruthless. I now have a huge bag of clothes give to our shelter for abused women. That felt nice!

My son's room is next - it is hard for him to let go of toys he no longer plays with but he really enjoys giving to our orphanage.

My husband hoards tools and stuff like that. Fortunately his workshop isn't at home!

i am a pack rat in the worst way, omg. spare room, garage and basement and every inch is cluttered. i have things from when i moved away from home 13 yrs ago that have never been unpacked. you'd think if i hadnt used it in that long i could easily throw it out. but, well, no excuses for it. it's just me.

terrible time throwing out things that have been given to me by people i care about. even if it's something i hate or can't use. but, it's time to start or we wont be able to turn around or even scratch our butts, LOL.

I am a horrible pack rat. My weakness is clothes. I just purged my closet and had 6 big bags of clothes for the salvation army and probably could do a couple of more bags now that winter has come along and I have all my winter things out of storage. I did finally give away my big dog shirt I wore the day of my Gastric Bypass surgery it was a 6x and I wear a 2X. It was mighty comfy but I was swimming in it and thought someone else could enjoy as much as I did.

I also hoard food. If you need a can of SPAM or a can of veggies I'm your girl.

I was told that my hoarding things are part of my OCD tendencies.

As Chalmette said, "Now, i dont want nothing, except for neccessities." And as Echoes said, "It feels good to live with little." I feel that way since I sold my bigger house last year. I had way too much stuff and auctioned most of it for pennies as well as giving stuff away. I make a conscious effort now not to collect and hoard "stuff!"

My best friend is a yard sale addict, and her house is a mass of clutter...Why she thinks she needs all that stuff I can't understand. That's why I don't go to yard sales of flea markets! Who else is a pack rat?

I used to be a total hoarder. Kept EVERYTHING (well, not like rotting food or those weird gross things some people hoard). I even kept all my homework and papers and such from elementary school on until I graduated high school and finally looked through them, just kept the stuff that really meant things to me (poems and essays) and the rest got recycled!
Now I just look like a pack rat because I don't have enough storage and I also hate to clean up!
