What incomprehensibly irks me? Easy: When someone makes up a fake profile and abuses the caring support of others.

I’m kind of irked at myself.

This women at work always brings me stuff that’s mine that she gets by accident, but when I get her stuff and I try giving it to her she just tells me to put it on my side. It really frustrates me because it just seems hypocritical and like a double standard and stuff. I mentioned it before in this thread. Anyways, she did it again today. I decided to say something for once. I said “I’ve just been putting your stuff on my side” she said “I’d put this stuff on my side, but I don’t have room.” She didn’t get mad at all and was really friendly about it and was friendly the rest of the day.

I am irked at myself because now I feel guilty and like I did something wrong. If she had gotten upset at me I wouldn’t feel bad. But because she was nice I feel like I was in the wrong. The thing is. There was plenty of room on her side for these things. I just feel like whenever I try sticking up for myself I always feel like I’m doing it the wrong way and I just sound like a jerk.

Does it sound like I did something wrong?

I cannot stand it when people ask "What's happening?," or "What's up?" and tune off if the answer isn't "Nothing much." They could just say "Hi!" instead. That would save everybody the trouble. Tuning off after asking a personal question just projects one in poor light.

Jealous people really irk me. I posted a picture of a burger I was eating on Facebook. Then this person immediately posted about how healthy she was being and “hashtag self care” she’s just trying to get under my skin. In reality she’s not very healthy at all.

pregnancy shows

babies are one of the cutist things on this planet (holding a new born in your arms is adorable), but I'd love to know how production companies can fill an hour time slot with a show that just repeats itself over and over

you know, this mother just gave birth, look at the cute baby, but wait a minit... next door another mother's giving birth- so now we'll also look at that one

their's only so many times you can watch a programme where the conclusion is a lie detector or DNA results

Sometimes people gotta bring others down because that's the only way they can feel good about themselves. *rolls eyes.*

Having the same conversation again and again. Then coming to a resolution, only to have it again several weeks later after they "forget."

people that know the truth about something and what's going on, but lie to you about it because they think that you can't handle the truth, or that somehow you're just not inteligent enough to know

Spelling errors irk me a lot. Especially commonly confused words: effect/affect, lie/lay, site/cite/sight, peace/piece, rain/rein/reign...

And y'all. It is a contraction for "you all" and is not spelled "ya'll". I think there are some areas where y'all might be used in the singular in the South, but mostly it is not, definitely not if you are an author writing a book taking place in southeast Texas. Y'all is and always has been plural here.

Thank you for that! Another Southerner here. I've seen people (Southerners included) defend "ya'll" by saying it's actually a contraction of the more informal "ya all," rather than "you all." To which I reply, so what? It's still spelled "y'all." The apostrophe fills in for the first A, not the second.

What bugs me even more is when people don't use the contraction. Instead they enunciate the full "you all," and think it makes them sound Southern. We don't say "you all." We say "y'all."

On the same subject, when people say they're speaking Spanish, and what they're really doing is putting "el" before an English word, and the letter O after it.

Whether calling a singular person "you all," or "el word-o," in both cases, this is inaccurate, stereotyping, and not fooling anybody.

Thanks for the rant. That felt good.

Oh--probably another Southern thing, but I live in the Pacific Northwest now, and things are different here.

I've ranted before about how a lot of women take offense to being called "ma'am." They feel it implies that they're old. Where I'm from, it simply means you're an adult rather than a child. To me, "miss" and "young lady" are condescending. And "sweetie" is even worse. When people get upset about "ma'am," it confuses me. I'm thinking, "Why don't you want to treated with respect?"

That said, I am finding it a bit weird now, when I hear my *daughter* being called "ma'am." Maybe it sounds strange to me because this is the same setting where people call me "young lady," and think they're being flattering. I'm "young lady" but my daughter is "ma'am." Makes no sense.

This is funny and relatable because I live in Texas.
Some people even say "All y'all" (all you all)

I say "y'all," "you guys," and "you all" though... Just depends.

Never ceases to confuse me, why people have to be like that. I don't understand.

That's the same kind of person who thinks it's funny to sneak up behind someone with PTSD and poke them in the ribs while yelling "BOO!"
