I’m really confused. Some are saying it’s a hoax and others are saying it’s real. I think a lot of the news stories are made up but are kids actually finding YouTube videos with her image in it? Is that part real? That picture is super creepy regardless if the hysteria is true or not

FYI if you do google it there’s a lot of SH trigger content.

It’s some sort of viral challenge. Some kids are watching YouTube videos and then in the middle of them this creepy looking lady comes on the screen and tells the kids to do bad things.

If it's offensive, report it. If it's boring, find a good book.

I was just wondering if it was true or mass hysteria because Some people are saying it’s true and some are saying it’s not. I haven’t watched any videos myself. I am reading a good book.

The message is that we need to be monitoring kids internet usage and talking with them about the dangers of the internet. Hoax this time, but the truth is that kids are doing stupid things because of things posted on the net.

Ok thanks. Some mom did find something in a video that was real but that video was taken down. The Today Show and Snopes reported it as true and had links to the video. But thanks for saying that the Momo one is fake. I was confused.

Exactly. It's about making sure that as parents we know what our kids are up to online. And that they and parents understand all about internet safety and what's legal and not legal.
My confidence level spikes each time things like this come up. Because somehow, someway, without being like a helicopter there's a lot of transparency in my home. My activities included.
My ex called me the other day--with omg..our kids aren't affected by momo are they?! So I put the phone out and asked each son, So uh what's momo? Each gave their own perplexed wth are you talking about look. With a mo what?
My middle son then the next day say..ooohhh...momo...I found the video on youtube. Yeah...some app telling kids to go harm themselves and then proceeded to show me..do you think I'd listen to this ugly mo fo?? Then it was laughter.
My sons even hold one another accountable to one another on top of it all.

Just another fear monger I suspect.

Googling "momo challenge" brought up several sites that call it a hoax.

On the other hand a co-worker reported she got a phone call from the mother of one of her young clients. She said the child spent hours crying hysterically after the challenge popped up during a youtube video.

I'm not sure what to believe at this point. The important take away is that parents need to oversee what their kids are doing online.

Speaking of Momo, my almost 16yr old just came out for refilling his water bottle and brought it up.
His comments....that's just really weird. And how crazy that it planted eggs into little kids youtube channels but youtube is so on that as they do tackle and crack down hard on certain elements. Then an offhanded wisecrack if he had to continuously look at that face.
Thanks for this!

I was very careful in looking up what the Momo challenge was, and the main image is nightmare-inducing. I mean, if I was minding my own business and that popped up telling me to kill myself, I'd be in hysterics, too! I know it's all fake, but ohhhhh sooooooo scary!!!!!!!

I disallow my daughter to have any social media account except a facebook and even then I make sure it's locked down private. Instagram is banned. The site has no filter for youngsters so they can get access to the adult side, the dark side of Instagram. WhatsApp is another. I suspect momo is fake. It appals me there is so much out there on social media one has virtually no clue about. We parents often overlook these things because we are constantly busy, our lives uncomfortably frenetic.

It frightens me that youngsters can fake their ages to access social media accounts without their parents having even a clue. Thankfully my Peggy is always upfront with me. We parents have to be on the lookout, though.

Hoax, hoax, hoax.

Regardless, it just points to the fact that there is no excuse for not supervising and monitoring one's children's activities or keeping an open dialogue regarding such. Frankly, I am appalled that young children are even plugged in at all. What a great opportunity this is to set aside screen time and actually do something like play outside, do some art, pull out a board game, or read a book, etc.

I think parents need to limit kids internet time to a minimum there is too many creeps out there and it's very scary whats out there. I was only allowed on the computer 1 hour when i was a teen no chatrooms or forums where allowed. There where no social media sites at that time

Adding more chime. My youngest said that this was rather old. It was what he thought was nothing more than a meme. He's more enthralled at watching statistics of what's moving and shaking in platform changes and trends.

To add: like I was saying to my oldest yesterday, it's since they all pretty much didn't know before now its getting its 15minutes of fame.

Why can't we make a positive social media challenge for a change?

Don't know but there's a trend of stupidity from the "normal" people and they have the audacity to say I'm the one broken.

***I like that you're broken
Broken like me
Maybe that makes me a fool
I like that you're lonely

Lonely like me
I could be lonely with you

I met you late night, at a party
Some trust fund baby's Brooklyn loft
By the bathroom, you said let's talk
But my confidence is wearing off

These aren't my people
These aren't my friends
She grabbed my face and that's when she said

I like that you're broken
Broken like me
Maybe that makes me a fool
I like that you're lonely
Lonely like me
I could be lonely with you

There's something tragic, but almost pure
Think I could love you, but I'm not sure
There's something wholesome, there's something sweet
Tucked in your eyes that I'd love to meet

These aren't my people
These aren't my friends
She grabbed my face and that's when she said

I like that you're broken
Broken like me
Maybe that makes me a fool
I like that you're lonely
Lonely like me
I could be lonely with you

Life is not a love song that we like
We're all broken pieces floating by
Life is not a love song, we can try
To fix our broken pieces one at a time

I like that you're broken
Broken like me
Maybe that makes me a fool
I like that you're lonely
Lonely like me
I could be lonely with you
I like that you're broken
Broken like me
Maybe that makes me a fool
I like that you're lonely
Lonely like me
I could be lonely with you***

Broken, lovelytheband.
