I know I have written bout this before but i am on my condo board. Finally, finally, the board is down to just two people... me and another.
And I am frustrated beyond belief. What is so rich is that we have a "problem" resident who is always complaining about things. And the truth is... I secretly agree with her but, always shut her down as if I don't because the other person on the board doesn't. So I am fighting for things I don't believe in. We had an annual meeting on 9/23. I typed up a pre-meeting set of notes on how to answer. After the meeting all the secretary (secretary from the last board) had to do was take those notes and add a little more. It is 10/22 and she still hasn't posted them. Despite promises she would this weekend. We had the 10/16 board meeting and I already posted the minutes. And with regard to that I sent the minutes to the other member on 10/17 and he still hasn't responded to approve or deny. I just got fed up and posted them. Here is what I want to know,,, why does everyone act as if I am insane for wanting these things done quickly. I WROTE UP THE MINUTES... I am only asking the other board to approve them. And he seems unable to do that in a week. Everything lately seems to move at a snails pace, except for me and my work, which apparently needs to be done -- at all times... asap. |

Well... my experience with this has been that basically no one (except you in your case) really much cares if-or-when anything in an HOA gets done. Association business is the absolute last thing on homeowners' agendas. If they run out of anything else to do, & if they happen to feel like it, maybe they'll get around to doing whatever it is they're supposed to do for the Association (assuming there's nothing particularly good on TV & they're not too tired.)
![]() I don't know what type of people you have living in your HOA. We have kind-of a mixture of "senior citizens" & younger to middle aged pretty-well educated people. They're all people who should easily understand the need to maintain the Association & run it, essentially, like a business (for, in fact, that's what it is.) But do they? No. But, boy, if something comes up they don't happen to like, they sure know how to piss-&-moan about it! ![]() I wish I knew what the answer to this is. Unfortunately I don't. I'm afraid it's just the nature of living in an HOA-type situation. Unfortunately for someone such as you who actually takes their responsibilities seriously & wants things done in a timely manner it can be an endless source of frustration. You have my deepest sympathies. ![]()

Finally I got upset and asked the lady if she had the minutes and she goes, you can post them.. so I do, and *I* made an error and that unit owner was jonney on the spot to correct me. It is just an overall thing though, everything I do I like to do fast. In fact my "mantra" is from a song from streets of fire -- the song is called "nowhere fast" the lyric goes, nothing wrong with going no place baby but we should be going nowhere fast. DARN RIGHT. And everyone-- EVERYONE, goes along at a snails pace. Is there a town or a state or anything where people go fast naturally -- where things are done promptly. How can I make that happen. I think someplace along the way it became ok to poke at everything and to just do a poor job. And though I don't like my problem unit owner she sure as heck did work when she was on the board. I swear to god that treasurer doesn't even really understand the financials. I often have to send him a budget and tell him things about the finances and he acts as if it isn't his job to inquire. I could go on... thanks... |
