I have been waiting to watch for the figure skating. NBC tv is presenting the Beijing events. The skating & skiing & snowboarding especially are so beautiful to me. Please, anyone who wants to share, tell us your thoughts & feelings about any of these winter sports events, ok?

It’s a shame I am not watching it this year. Don’t even know why.
I love winter sports. To watch haha not participate. |

I stopped watching years ago. If they would play the music and let us enjoy the skating feats without their constant yap yap cometary I’d watch it. Even bobsledding they yap yap. They need to let people watch and enjoy. Keep the yap yap for replays and the time in between events.

I feel like China is being super shady in so many ways about the olympics. I saw a bit of the opening ceremonys this morning though.

I watch with the sound muted. I periodically glance at the closed captioning. Sometimes I imagine my own music to accompany the beautiful flowing skaters. Thank you for replying!

Yes, with the free version of peacock you can watch what would be showing live on TV. To watch events at different times, you have to pay though. I have a TV but it doesn't have an antenna or cable. I just use it to stream hulu and Netflix.

I refuse to watch or read any of it. Its a disgrace that its being held in a country that violates human rights the way china does.

I do think the US not allowing ambassadors to go was a pretty lame move. It doesn't really send a message unless you don't allow your athletes to go. Imagine the Olympics without any US athletes. That would be interesting.

When it comes to any sports I do try to keep politics out of it. For me, I try and see the skills that are required when it comes to the Olympics. I myself have two left feet when it comes to dancing, but I do admire those figure skating events.

I have tried ice skating, and it's very hard on your ankles. I can only do a couple of laps before I'm in too much pain and have to stop. So I really do admire how much effort it takes for the figure skaters to do what they do.

I LOVE the ice skating! Especially the couples/pairs dancing in sync. So beautiful!

There is a trick to it. You stare at one spot as you spin. Whip your neck around when you have to but keep staring at it. I was taught it in ballet as a kid. Can't say I was ever great at it though, lol. I only lasted a year and a half.

Not watching it. It doesn't interest me and it never did. I'm always glad when it's
over so that I don't have to hear about it anymore. |

Hopefully it'll be a better course than the trash they put up for GS. Soo many people crashed. You could tell by the chatter but it looked soft it was dust on crust conditions too which is not ideal for racing. Of course it's all in the sport, but still when you see this happening:

@Sapien, I just learned that Mikaela Shiffrin will be back this evening. You may have already known that, but just in case, I thought I should correct myself. I had read before that she would return Wednesday.

BreakingDawn, thanks for starting this thread! I searched for the Olympics in the tv forum and social chat forum, bingo! This site usually comes through.
![]() Seems nobody in real life shares my interests so thankfully I can say my thoughts here. I’ve loved the Olympics since I was 14, when Nadia Comaneci won gold in gymnastics. We were the same age; I’m not athletic so admire the abilities of these competitors. And to have so much courage to perform in front of millions. ![]() I haven’t enjoyed it as much the last few years due to my own life, and since Covid my enjoyment waned somewhat but I still watch. Certainly mostly empty stands and politics put a damper on these games. I record the events I like so I can fast forward through the dozens of commercials and chatter and instant replays. Love everything except hockey, curling, and cross country skiing. Within skiing, I enjoy moguls, downhill, and aerials. In downhill they are going as fast as cars on a freeway!! ![]() I could watch aerials all day but they don’t cover it much. Flying down that ramp then being 30 or 40 feet up, doing tricks and landing securely is amazing!!! ![]() Snowboarding! The slope style and Half Pipe are my favorites, again the tricks! Shaun White! ![]() Nammu, I used to follow figure skating year round but stopped watching years ago due to the commentators constant yakking during the performance! And since they skate to music I can’t mute the tv. The music is important. It’s hard to tune them out. I especially HATE Tara Lapinski and Johnny Weir. Never liked the skating of either much and the latter always had a surly expression on his face while skating. He had weird costumes too. ![]() They act like they’ve never had a bad day or skate. They can save their criticism and catty comments for the instant replays or for later. So because it’s the Olympics, I’m watching the skating but have to suffer through the chatter. I mute it now and then and miss some music cause it’s too much at times. They are worse than Peggy Fleming and **** Button! “She could use more stretch in this extension.” Shut the eff up! It’s THEIR OPINION and the skater looks good to me! Enjoy ice dancing a bit more than pairs since they can be more creative. Except for skating, I watch with the TV muted. I’ve watched these sports enough to know if someone is going to get a good score. Sometimes I unmute it for an athlete interview or other stuff. But I can have my music on while watching the events. ![]() What a relief to get that out! Been bottled up since the games started! ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oooooo mum wanted to watch the news on the channel the Olympics is on and they were skating….without the yap yap! So we kept watching. I think they heard people complaining. They said a few things but for the most part they were quiet. It’s nice.

Forgot to say I don’t like biathlon either. Something to do with guns, I don’t like guns.
Another thing about the Olympics is the intense training they go through just to qualify for the team. Then they have to go through rounds of more qualifying tests or races! If you don’t make the final group you don’t compete for a medal. ![]() Also they are under so much pressure and expectations….If you won gold in the last games you’re expected to win again. They call you the “defending champion”, even the choice of words there is a lot of pressure. I’d buckle under that pressure, along with reporters shoving a microphone in my face after I had a fall or something: “What are you feeling now?” ![]() So after years of training your Olympics could be over in just seconds, depending on the sport. The gravity defying high flying aerials I love is over for each competitor in about 10 seconds, they are airborne 4 seconds to do their tricks and land smoothly. No room for errors at all!! ![]() Nammu, regarding skating I haven’t heard less chatter. Was then during singles or pairs, do you remember? ![]() They are the reason I quit watching years ago. Two commentators are enough for any sport, yet some have as many as 4. For the love of all things sacred will they SHUT THE EFF UP?! ![]() My heart breaks when a skater stumbles or falls. And Weir will say “that won’t help his score, big deduction”. Duh?! We aren’t idiots, we know that. ![]() And if he’s never fallen. People have been complaining about them long before this but maybe it took years to sink in? They may be getting paid to talk but I don’t listen. ![]() I don’t mind background on an athlete, like how he placed third in Worlds last two years and this is his first Olympics. But most of the time the commentators criticize an athlete to death. ![]() What I love about skating is that it combines artistry and athletics. No other sport does it, except floor exercise in gymnastics. Oddly, only the women perform to music in that. Sexist I think ![]() Anyway no other sport in these games have music except for skating. And Tara and Johnny ruin it. They were being interviewed and I fast forwarded through it. I don’t care what they say. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It was the mens short form. For the most part the commentary was quiet. Saw Nathan Chen win the gold. But yes every time someone fell they had to comment on that! Of course during Nathan’s beautiful performance they just had to speak. 😩
