If so, what do you think of the new rules?

I am old school so I stand firm that baseball peaked in the 1970s.

Curious what you think.

Played a bit as a kid. Hardball/softball kids leagues and tons of sandlot but eventually hockey won out. Baseball has quite a history though. I will certainly acknowledge that.

I love baseball which is unusual for a Canadian (most are into hockey).

Im having a heart attck that Teixeira is the name of the national guard secret spiller. I was like, wait - i know that name! Okay, i guess ten years back, but still!

I havent watched or listened to a game yet this year. is dustin pedroia still around? Or jacoby whatsisname? They were my two favorite rookies. Or the redsox pitcher that ripped off his fingernail and benched himself?! I called into the stadium and offered to be the team manicurist.

Oddly enough, I thought the same exact thing. It's not like Teixeira is a common name.

Pedroia? No idea. I don't know the names like I used to. I know who Shohei Ohtani is and a few others but the game has changed so much.

As someone forced to view live games when I should be sleeping (at, sometimes, 1am) I'd hope the new rules slightly increase the pacing of the game.
I found Baseball by accident tuning in to a feature on Barry Bonds during a late-night American sports show, 2004ish

I have always loved the game in its purist form but today's new rules have tainted it for me. Pitch clocks, bigger bases, limited pick off attempts, ability to challenge calls, electronic communication between pitcher and catcher, etc. etc. etc. It's just not the same game anymore. The 1970s was the peak decade in baseball in my opinion. That's the price of being old I guess.

When COVID hit and the season was delayed, my local FOX sports channel aired a lot of different things to fill the time slots. They showed the 1971 All-Star Game and I recorded it. To this day it is one of my most prized possessions. Twenty-two Hall-of-Famers would play in that game! The crowning jewel was Reggie hitting the light tower on the right field roof. I used to visit Tiger Stadium growing up and always wondered how somebody could possibly hit a ball that hard. It mesmerizes me to this day.

On cold winter days I'll watch that game and it always makes me smile.
