Well said. Same here. I also can't stand crowds that size anymore. It didn't bother me when I was much younger but it does now. Sigh.... Gee, your posts always look like I wrote them.

Yeah people often get hurt from using them, if not done right. And if they are drunk also, all the more likely.l

Yes, fireworks.🤔Hate to be a buzz kill, but I don't see any good in them anymore. Pretty on the eyes, yes, but the animals hate them, and I vibe very much with the animals. With each loud bang I just know they're all terrified in their nests and burrows etc - man is not far away. Some animals die from fright, heart failure, it's too much for them. Then you have all the injuries and many fire call-outs. It's foolishness on a large scale really.

I want to see a responsible world not this ongoing collective recklessness! Sorry

Me either. I'll be either reading or bs-ing on here, as sleep will be impossible for awhile. I usually go to bed when the noise starts.

With all the gun violence in the US, they remind me of guns. I didn't use to think like that, but now I wonder if it was a gun going off or was that a firecracker.

Yes @nonightowl, very noisy and disruptive. I can imagine how unnerving that sound must be for many Americans for sure.🙏 Horrible.

It's interesting too because the firework, the sky rocket, the roman candle etc., we're in fact the precursor to the canon and the gun many hundreds of years ago - direct descendants. Gunpowder.

And we are the only country with this problem of mass shootings. There seems to be an uptick on them on holiday weekends, a time when the media sends the message everyone is off and having fun with family and friends.

I just wonder if some military veterans find them difficult to tolerate. World war one veterans had it toughest when it came to artillery barrages. I would think that for some vets fireworks are something they'd rather avoid.

They were great when I was younger. Now they just make my dog shake and assure that I won’t be going to sleep early anytime near July 4th. I live in the city where even sparklers aren’t allowed.

I'm actually worried they are going to start shooting them off next weekend, since the holiday falls on a Tuesday. I also know I'll be up Tuesday night for sure, so Wednesday is going to suck.

Yeah even if stuff isn't allowed people do it anyway.

Good grief! The neighborhood maniacs are already at it with the firecrackers. I thought they would at least wait until tomorrow, start of the weekend. *sigh*

I know fireworks can be really awful for pets and some people with PTSD, so I feel like I should be against them, but I have to admit I do like a good firework show. We used to have festival here where different countries would put on fireworks displays choreographed to classical music. It's been a while since that happened. Tomorrow is Canada Day which is a big fireworks day. I plan on going out to watch them.

Splitimage, I have similar feelings about the professionally done shows. My heart goes out to folks with PTSD trying to cope. I sure posted plenty about BG's terror over the noise. Yet I like the lightshow.

The fireworks choreographed to classical music sounds great. That would've been neat to see.

They want to cancel the annual show a few miles from me, on a local popular beach. It's because of sick sea lions on the sands, sick from the excessive algae bloom in the ocean. And the noise would be unbearable to the already suffering creatures. Alas, I don't think they are going to do it.

My local high school has a show every year, and it's about a mile from me I think, so I still hear the noise. And of course the local firecrackers going off on my street as well.

Yeah, I just read about that in the local paper. Pretty cool. Now they are saying we might have rain Tuesday night so I’m sure people are going to be shooting them off tonight and or Monday night. Last night I didn’t hear any but I’m in town now. Fireworks are actually illegal here, but at mum’s house in the suburbs we heard them all the time. What they need to do is make it illegal to sell them. It’s funny, it’s not illegal to sell them, just illegal to shoot them off. So of course people buy them.

Seems like all you really need to do is remind certain people that fireworks were invented by the Chinese. Maybe we can get the Supreme Court to rule against fireworks. Are we sure fireworks don't spread covid?

Boy who woke up cranky?!

I missed our local televised fireworks this year, which is fine, because they always have the WORST music playing, omg, it just sets my nerves off. I'll be screaming at the tv, "Nobody likes that song!", while i have my headphones on. My neighbors think im nuts, im sure!

Ha ha that would certainly stymy those rednecks. But they’d probably just switch to guns.

I guess I'm changing my thinking about fireworks.

I went to a baseball game last night and of course they were going to have fireworks after. Well, after the last out, 90% of the people stayed in their seats while the rest of us headed to the parking lot and I was on the expressway within 10 minutes of the last out. That NEVER happens. Thanks, fireworks.

We have been having so much thunder & lightning here it is hard to tell what is fireworks & what is nature. Thought I heard fireworks last night & looked in the direction of the sound & there was lightning. Even checked my weather app to verify. My weather app has been showing that 10 miles around my farm is being used by lightning as target practice....it is solid covered in yellow lightning strike symbols.

With our current SCOTUS, I have little faith. They would probably support them.

We had a light rain one year but it never got hard enough to stop people. It IS odd you can't shoot them off but you can buy them. That makes no sense at all, because some people will always do what they want----illegal or not.

And they may be illegal in a city, but if you merely cross the street you're within the boundaries of ANOTHER city. Hence, people will just do that---cross the street.

So far it's quiet but I'm waiting for it. And since we have construction going on a block away, that bang, bang, bang can sound like firecrackers. People often don't wait until it's dark anymore since it takes too long for the sun to set now. And some of my neighbors make the kind of noise that can rival firecrackers.

Yeah there can be a good side. Off topic, but it reminds me of how when I used to go to the movies, I'd want to watch the credits. Everyone else leaves and if we did too, we'd get caught up in that stampede. This way it'd be easy to leave and most of the cars in the lot would be gone by then too. So easy to get out as well.

I've seen fireworks over the White House and other big places/cities so they no longer interest me. Seen one boom and sparkle, seen them all. As far as the noise, I don't care. I know kids love to watch them so I'm all for them having some fun. Around here, everyone stops well before I go to bed anyway, so I don't care. Have your fun. Just keep it your yard and ffs don't blow yer fingers off.

In the early 1980's, i went to a mensa convention in new york city that just happened to be around the 4th of july. So i saw the fireworks over the east river, i think. The thing that struck me the most was watching the absolute stream of people heading east to, then west after the show. Billions and billions!

As I feared, more mass shootings happened yesterday, part of this "holiday weekend". And a guy actually said he thought they were fireworks or firecrackers, at first. He WAS at a big party. So this is why the first thing that comes to mind now for me is, "Is that gunfire?"

So far there's been no noise here, but I'm waiting for it. It will probably be tonight, since tomorrow is the actual holiday. And maybe tomorrow as well.

In the last few nights, there have been booms I can hear in the distance. Since it's off in the distance, it's not loud, but still annoying. Tonight is the eve of the 4th so I imagine there might be more noise. It seems like on the 4th, before 9, there are lot of booms and bangs around which is annoying.

I have to say that in 2020 it was nice when they didn't have the fireworks. That was the only nice thing about that year.

Yeah, I can't recall anything in 2020 either, as everything was in lockdown. You're right that it's the only good thing about that year.

Since it's now the 4th, I'm expecting noise tonight just before 9 or it could be earlier. I'm already figuring out coping strategies. Read? BS on here? Watch TV? Swear?

One more day, one more day, one more day......

Thankfully the holiday sort of falls in the middle of the week, instead of on the weekend.
