One more day, one more day, one more day......

Thankfully the holiday sort of falls in the middle of the week, instead of on the weekend.

So will tonight, especially tonight! It's not only the noise that gets to me, it's the idea that I should be out there having a great time with it all and I don't feel like it.

I think last year I sat on my couch watching the local fireworks alone on my laptop. It looked nice but I felt like a sorry dope that I'm missing out on being there.

I read that it's partly our culture, including the media, that makes it hard for people who are alone.....in spite of making a lot of effort not to be. (The only "invitations" I get are from scammers to call some number) The message is there's one, long party going on and you're not invited.

I've found that reminding myself of the posts on this site, that others feel the same, and that this country is unraveling helps keep me grounded. Even with stuff like vacations, people are expected to be DOING something. Our culture is based on productivity and consumption. Sick, sick, sick. Seems a lot of people hate the holidays but do stuff they hate anyway because society expects it. (Gatherings, gifts, etc.)

Many years ago I used to watch the fireworks on TV, even on NYE. But it got too depressing. TV doesn't do it justice anyway, and now with our climate, they aren't a good thing to do now.

It doesn't help that every holiday greeting starts with "Happy". Joy is expected. Not everyone is off either; so many employers demand 7 days a week so there's no "holiday" for them. And in some cases, people would rather work than be with family. Or maybe they don't have any.

Are you sure you don't share my DNA? With the secrets both our parents kept, who knows?

The large park had fireworks last night. Didn't feel like going so I watched them from 5 miles away through my 2nd story window. My friend's farm is closer & they watched from their front porch. Get the pretty without the loud booms over head. It was nice.

I do what I want with or without anyone else & I totally enjoy myself.

Hazel did great. Big boom booms don't seem to bother her.

It was realitively quiet here last night. Some random shooting before dark. Then some fireworks around 10, but not as much as usual.

Yesterday the noise started around 6pm, when it was still sunny! They don't wait till dark anymore. And it used to stop about 9:30, but last night it went on way beyond that. At 10 it was quiet, so I mistakenly thought it was over and went to bed. More booms and pops, probably till at least 11. I was thinking wtf, how late is it now?

But I knew better than to look at the clock, because it would piss me off more. Maybe a second cup of coffee will help, I feel like crap and the day is going to be long, since I woke up too early. Couldn't sleep hardly.

I HOPE they don't do it tonight as well.

Well it's over now. Where I am tonight I don't hear any booms and bangs. I heard a lot more of it last night. And crowd noise with the fireworks. Glad it's over!

I saw on the news yesterday that drone sky shows are gaining popularity and may someday replace most fireworks. They appear even more spectacular and are far environmentally safer in terms of pollution, fire risk, injury, and effects on people's respiratory systems. For those reasons I would favor drone shows. Long live continuing progress!

I'm assuming they aren't NOISY either. I did hear about this, but large crowds could make the noise the fireworks or firelights wouldn't.

I'm glad it's over too, and that August doesn't have any holidays. It's hot as freaking h e l l but NO HOLIDAYS. Still, they are already talking about Labor Day....... But fireworks seem to be associated with July 4th and Dec 31st only, thankfully. Another thing about any holiday is that it disrupts my routine. And routine is all I have to stay sane.

The hardest part for me was not knowing if the brief silence meant they stopped, or it was just a lull. That's why when it was quiet for a few minutes around 10pm, I thought it was "safe" to go to bed. Nope...Boom, boom, boom minutes later.

Yea that's what happened to me, too. I felt like I spoke too soon about it all being over. Last night was nice and quiet and then I went to bed around 9:30. But then around 9:45 there was a fireworks show going on not far from where I live. I thought it was late to just have it started. I hope it all ends real soon. Yes, it's creepy to feel like it's all nice and safe but then you get a surprise; and a not so good one!

I saw a funny post on FB:

"My neighbor bought $25,000 in fireworks.....that's ok.....I got up the next morning at 5:30am & mowed my yard" sometimes revenge is sweet

9:45 IS late to get it started! Usually it's about 9pm here. Nothing last night (7/5th), but I kept anticipating people "extending" the holiday, so I couldn't sleep for hours. Hope tonight is better. I go to bed at 9. I haven't done that since I was 10, but I'm exhausted with so much bs lately, not just holidays.

They said they combine them with music or other sound effects, which are more varied than just the booms and sparks sounds of traditional fireworks.
